Searched my first full box of halves and on my 5th to last roll found a 40%er. I also found some very nice clad as well(dont know how to grade yet haha) so at least it wasn't a skunk.

No luck on bank searching so far, but today I got a nickel in change from a soda pop machine and a 1940-S nickel came out. Not silver, but also not an everyday find!

    Nice find, Anubis.

9 40% out of 70$ in halves, plus two slv quarters from a teller's tray.

Work was pretty slow last night so I took off an hour early because I was itching to search a box of dimes I had in the car. Turned out to be what I would call a GOOD box with a 1956 & 1964 Roosie. Maybe it was the light or because it was late, but they were difficult to spot. The 1956 was very brown, like it had been buried and it did not have the nice white edge I typically see. Pulled it because I pull all dirty ones and it fell on the table and I knew it was silver. The 1964 had a nice clean face but the edge again had some dirt or something on it so it was difficult to spot as well. For all who edge check, pull those dirty looking ones, they can be tricky.

The last few days' finds from all of you have been incredible! While being on vacation is great, I still get a little twitchy feeling when I pass by the banks - I keep wondering if they might have half dollars down here...? ;)

Picked up a box of dimes on my lunch break, there was a 1998 Canadian ender. I hope that bodes well for the rest of the box and there are more silver rims like the Canadian in there. Taking a half day tomorrow to dump a couple boxes of dimes and turn that $500 over as many times as possible in 4 hours. I've got a couple hundred in halves I'm going to dump along the way in smaller chunks so I'm not waiting at TD for them to change the bag a bunch of times. I plan on hitting the dimes hard tomorrow and pick up any halves they might have along the way.

The more you dump at td, the more used to you they get. I typically take the sifter out, someone comes over to change the bag, and they keep the machine out in case I fill another bag. With halves, they change bags while I dump in the change and restart the counter after it stops.

The only exception is new hires who usually don't know jack about how to use the machine anyway.

HOTN - I agree with Merc. The biggest issue I have with TD is if they are short staffed. Sometimes it takes longer to get someone over to help me once the bag is full than the actual coin counting. I've done a $1000 in halves in less than 20 minutes at the machine. It's worth the time.

    Hey Merc,
Thanks for the information, I'm going to do it all in one shot while I have the teller there. I'll just tell them what I have so they can stick around and keep changing the bags out for me. I do like when they pull the machine out and you can dump the coin right in the hopper rather than feeding it down that sifter portion, that makes it go alot quicker. Now that I have been doing this for a while I don't really feel bad dumping all my coin as I'm not abusing the service at any one branch in particular. The tellers all really seem nice except the one guy who could not get the machine apart and said they were more hassle than they are worth. I bet he would love me dumping a couple hundred in hand rolled dimes and halves on him.

Rude and inattentive tellers get more dumps than the nice ones by me.... I don't mind giving up ten more minutes to ruin their day, haha.

Went to my dump bank today and found out that they are going to start charging me to dump halves. I have to call them next week to see what the deal is, as I told them that I would roll the coins instead of putting them in a bag but the tellers didn't like that option.....who knows what will happen.

On a side note, I stopped at a pawn shop on the way home that always advertises on the TV. THeir coins were priced super high but the worst was that in the 15 minutes I was there I saw two people come in selling coins. One person was selling about 15 silver eagles and 1 gold eagle. The pawn shop paid them 1300 bucks which they took - I couldn't believe it. The second guy came in with 3 walkers, 1 '64 kennedy, a barber quarter, 1 merc dimes and 6-40%s. They gave him 22 bucks. I spoke to him outside and informed him that he had been ripped off after we were talking a bit and he wasn't happy. I told him that just based on the 4 90% coins I would give him 50 bucks. He walked into the pawn shop and got his coins back - and I paid him 50 bucks for the lot.

Never a good sign to hear about banks that want to start charging to dump your coins. On the other hand for me, TD Bank is about 20 minutes away, with the cost of gas and time if they only charged a couple bucks per bag I might do it. Once your used to something though and they change the policy it's a bitter pill to swallow.
I brought in $650 in halves the other day in a bag to be sent out and counted/credited to my account. The teller actually offered to sit there and count them out with me so she could credit my account right away. I was on lunch so I did not have the time to spare but thought that was really nice of her.

Good score on the pawn shop deal....I bet he was happy and so where you with almost $100 melt silver for $50.

Wow, Merc, Ace, do you do most of your dumping at TD? Those times are crazy, and the $100 bags are a joke. The coin counters at my local PNC and Navy Federal take $1,000 at a time and it takes at most 90 seconds. Side note - I found a monopoly battleship piece last time I went to the counter.

VT - yes it is a bit time consuming. I may scout some other banks that offer coin counting and open a few more accounts up. I have a ton of PNC's and other banks with coin counters.
