Which photo is better?

bookert1.jpg IMG_1717.jpg Here are 2 photos of the same coin. Taken through a PCGS slab. One with the flash, one without. Any thoughts as to which is better? I know neither is ideal but I don't have a pro set-up. I sort of like the dramatic black/white steeliness of the first pic; it seems more "true" to the actual coin. The 2nd pic is softer and more muted but the lighting is more even. Maybe that's the winner?

The first one is better. For the second image, the white balance is way off.

Louie hit the nail on the head. White balance is out of whack due to the flash lighting.

After flipping a coin Head is First, Tail is the second one..
The result is Head.... means the First one is the better pic...

Both photos have issues (#1 exposure is too high, #2 white balance is too warm), but if forced to choose, I'd choose 2.

    #1.

You really think there's too much exposure on this one Mike?

Thanks all, I think I'm going with No. 1:yes:

Yes, I do. See all the blown highlights (i.e. completely white areas devoid of detail)? That's the dead ringer for an overexposed photo (generally caused by missetting of camera exposure and/or poor lighting technique).

I agree with Mike. To me the first picture makes the coin look polished and the second one it looks washed out. So I would say the one I like the best is the one you have not taken yet, but if forced to pick it would be #2. :)

Photo 2 is better, IMO. Okay, the white balance is off. Simple to fix with your post-processing software.

Photo 1 has too much glare and lost detail in all that white area.

Photo 2 has better exposure, better detail...BTW's face, rim and lettering, etc.

Lance is obviously better at color correcting photos than me !!!

I tried to color correct Photo #2 ... trouble is when I got the coin about right, the rim turned blue ... oh well

Did you reduce the color saturation on the editing software? That seemed to produce a similar result for me. Thanks.
