I bought a coin collection today. According to the owner it has been locked away for about 30 years. This coin was sitting on the end of a paper roll of peace dollars.

I know that this coin probably AT's at the grading company all day... but I think it naturally toned this way. There were a couple of Silver ikes with some similar but darker toning.

That's very cool looking! I don't know what PCGS would say. If it was me, I would be curious enough to send it in.

Well, I may just send it in in Chicago for fun. If it comes back in a no problem holder I'm in the money!

On Peace Dollars, even obvious NT is widely considered AT. I collect toned Peace Dollars, but I don't really know anybody else in on it. They're a more acquired taste than toned Morgans, I suppose. I like to say they have more character ;-)

i would hope it slabs NT but the reverse is gonna hold it back from a must have grade.

Based on my own experience with the toning of coins at the ends of rolls, the side that touches the paper tends to exhibit far more toning than the side that is touching another coin. In fact, toning on the side of the coin that touches another coin tends to occur just around the rim, if it occurs at all.

Who cares of it slabs or not - looks 100% NT to me. Gorgeous coin !

If you can get it in a PCGS slab (graded) ... big bucks for sure.
Colorful Peace Dollars are very rare (unlike Morgans).

I agree. It's worth the price of submission IMHO. The risk/reward is good enough and the coin does look naturally toned, but know the TPGs as well as other experts when it comes to toning. "Mediocre is genuine, ugly is genuine, but if it looks to good, it can't possibly be genuine."

this is a beautiful coin, Matt. I'd try.
