And why don't you still have them? For me it's all family heirloom coins: 1838 $5 Classic Head Quarter Eagle - stolen in robbery IHC collection in VF-AU, 86% complete - stolen in robbery 1877 MS Trade Dollar - sold on ebay for no good reason, just didn't think it suited my needs at the time 1892 Columbian Half - disappeared, no idea where
9 Original, nice large cents ranging from VF to AU in grade. 65% complete IHC set, including a '77 in probably VG. Bunch of SLQ's. '32-S Washie in F. A few Shield nickels. and a bunch of other odds and ends all lost. Had 'em in a binder, put it away, stopped collecting for a decade, now the binder is nowhere to be found. Other than that? Not much, I wish I had all the 40% silver I sold when silver was at $25 spot, hah.
I sold this Walker Short Set all in PCGS MS64 holders which were in custom PCGS display cases to a forum member here around a year ago and I think I sold them a little too cheap... sort of wish I just kept the set.
And it wasn't a very expensive coin, but I really liked this Columbian Half I sold a few years ago...
I once had a 1906 $2.50 gold piece that, looking back on it now, it could have been a presentation piece of some kind. I bought it in a cardboard velvet-lined presentation case. The problem was, while it didn't appear to have any marks, the E in LIBERTY was weak, and that was before the days of big differences in the prices of MS grades. So when I had the chance to sell it for a few dollars profit, I did. I just wonder what it would have graded today.
When I was younger, probably eight or so, my dad had a 6 gallon water jug full of all the coins he got at college, he said I could keep the money if I rolled them. I took all the foreign coins out, but looking back on it, I hate to think of all the silver I could have missed out on, I didn't know about the silver in pre-1964 coins back then.
All of my original collection from the 1950's (including some pricy items like $3 gold and complete sets of Lincoln cents and most others)... in order to finance my first marriage in 1969. The two biggest mistakes of my life.
I feel for you. I sold my 1957 Chevy Convertible for $10K to finance my marriage in 1982. Would have been worth $110K now. I think I'll keep the wife anyway.
30 years of Proof sets ( 1956 to 1986 ) Washington Quarter set 1932 to 1964 (VF 32-S & VF 32-D) Unc Roosevelt set (1946 to 1964 ) A lot of Walking Libertys, Franklins, Morgans, & Peace. My 1st wife took them all to a Pawn Shop during our Divorce! But I did get the Complete 1962 Topps Baseball Card set ( Mickey Mantle, Roger Maris, etc) & I still have it locked in my Vault :thumb: So I started over collecting, and I think I have done pretty darn good since then
i have just started collecting but when i was a kid i had a bag just filled with random coins that i though were unique that i cashed into a store just to get some candy i still wonder what could have been in that bag i know i had some mercurys and some barbers in there oh well you can't change the past
Back in the late 80's i sold my 42/41 merc, 1937 3 legged buffalo and my 1876 proof seated quarter. Needed to pay bills when the kids were young. I just replaced the 3 legged buffalo a few weeks ago and had a deal fall through last weekend that would have replaced the 42/41 merc. (still looking)
