I would get ahold of Budgood who is a member here and a well respected dealer,He lives over there in eastern OH and may be the most help. Or if you have the time and funds drive over to Chicago and goto the ANA and hand it over to Pcgs in person. just a couple of ideas
If properly stored. the coin will do nothing but gain in value over the years that you can gain experience and knowledge to deal with auction houses and dealers. But eventually, you will need to get it authenticated. perhaps in the coming years, there will be a show with PCGS or NGC attending that can do it then. No rush. Welcome to the forum ! Jim
Actually Budgood's in the Toledo area which is in the northwestern part of the state. Another possibility is Larry Briggs who is in the Lima area. He usually attends the Ohio Coin Expo in Brecksville that is coming up Aug.27 and 28. Also you could wait for the ANA show in October in Pittsburg. That's a easy couple hour drive from our area.
Pam, Your coin is also a valuable One. If I were you I wil wait for the right time to be certified that coin in your present. Do not ever ship your coin and entrusted to some people you do not know. I do have also experiences of that kind of feeling when my avatar ( 1995 Double Denomination ) before it was certified by Mr. Alan Hager in Baltimore Coin Show in Maryland. Year 2000, March. :thumb:
:thumb: VERY GOOD ADVISED! I Drive to a coin show where Mr. Alan Hager Set up his ACCUGRADE on March, Sunday- Year 2000. 11 years ago. And it was certified him personally. And You know what his employee almost made a mistake to use the dime holder on my coin. He ask first Mr. Hager with a loud voice. _ ALAN! can I use a Dime Holder on this coin. Mr. Hager said NO! Please use the penny holder. Then that's it. After certifying it . He gave me one of his B/Card.:thumb:
Pam, I am not to far from you and have a couple dealers that I go to. If you are up in the cleveland area please let me know and we can go to them if you like.
45 minutes if I am driving Good Excuse to see downtown then..As a matter of fact they are filming the movie Avengers next week..they are starting right across the street from where I work
There are three images of this coin, the one in the cardboard flip was taken on Aug 3, 2011 in Ohio - the other two are cropped from an AU55 PCGS example sold on HA last March. You can see the stain/mark below the D of GOD is the same, as are the contact marks on LIBERTY. I would fly to Ohio tomorrow if I thought this would pan out.
How is this believable when the photo is of a coin that was sold at HA last march? "Years ago, my grandfather gave me a little box full of old coins. I never really gave them much thought and threw them aside in a box. Since having my third child this past January I kept telling myself it is time to go through some stuff and get rid of it. Well during that process, I came across these coins again, and thought maybe I will look into them. Well after extensive hours on the internet, I think I have a couple good finds. One in particular which to the common person would appear to be just a penny. When I saw it I thought why is there a penny in a case?? I didn't think anything of it and threw it aside with the others that appeared to have no value. My husband was the one who noticed it might be something special. After doing even more research, I decided it to take it to someone who knew what they were talking about. So I took it to an antique dealer in my town who is very into old coins. I spent about 2 hours there with this man who in the end told me that I have quite the find! The penny that I have is a 1969-S IC Doubled Die Obverse RB regular size penny" Read more: http://www.cointalk.com/t189312/#ixzz1Upous2DY
