Houcks Panacea Counterstamp Bust Half Here's a pic of a collectible bust half with a counterstamp. It is much more valuable with the counterstamp.
Harvey, are you sure that this is a circulated coin. It looks to be MS to me and it is very nice looking. I don't detect one bit of wear on the coin. In fact, I see mint luster on it on both sides, especially the obverse.
I agree. The counter-stamp makes the coin much more valuable. I can't quite make out what the counter-stamp says. Can you please post it?
The 1807 is an AU coin, wish it was Unc.... Still a favorite coin of mine.... Here's a closeup of the counterstamp. Houcks Panacea. Houcks was a physician who made a potion that claimed to cure many ailments in the early 1800's. He counterstamped many bust halves with his product to advertise it.
I've got a real good 1899-O morgan for this thread and a memorial cent I found today. I'll try to get pictures tomorrow!
Just bought it, think I paid a little much for it even though I dont know value for the condition its in but im from wisconsin and have to have one! Maybe this will just be my starter for the wisconsin quarters!
No not that lucky! Its a high leaf! Guessing I will get a low leaf later this year. Just happens that this was in my watch list and was not bid to the moon so I bought it, maybe for a little more than I wanted but it was an impulse buy.
