    Hi guys,

I picked up this '92 s awhile back hoping for an XF45 or so, I paid $200. Wondering what everyone's thoughts would be on a grade and if it's worth sending in to PCGS?

What makes you think it has been cleaned? It appears to have the typical patina of a circulated coin.

the fields appear "not natural" , too shiny , look at the reflection off her cheek(unless thats a reallly bright flash) ...for me (without the coin in hand and only 2pics to work off of) its cleaned

Considering the deal (or at least I thought it was) I got on it, I wouldn't doubt it. The scratches do appear to be natural though.

It's a CIRCULATED coin that has been handled by who knows how many hands for 10, 20, or 50 or more years. The dirt and grime in the protected areas of the date and legend would be natural, but the open spaces of the fields and the face would naturally seem clean. The "shine" you mention is just the reflection of light when the photo was taken. You can produce this same effect when taking a photo of black iron.

It's been polished Chris. It's definitely a no grade at PCGS. I see remnants of the original luster inside some of the letters on the reverse... but that's about it... I see no dirt and grime on the coin.

Your photos are small, and lighting when you took them not very good either. However, from what I can see, and not what I think could be there, are circulation marks and rubs on both sides, and XF is not out of line on grade. These run anywhere from $240-$300, and numismedia.com lists XF40 at $318.

If you should enlarge the photos, it would be much easier to give a better opinion on whether the coin was cleaned or not. But always remember, grading coins from photos online, is not accurate at all as you can see much more with the coin in hand than from a photo.

I agree...this coin is definitely been cleaned and polished...it would never slab and is a problem coin. It's a nice date though.

OK, I'll ask -- are you sure it's real?

I agree that it looks polished and unnatural. I do not see a natural patina on that coin. Perhaps it was cleaned years ago and is starting to get some patina back. I am sure you are way more experienced than me, but I think you're wrong this time.
