The Chicago Air Show is on for that weekend also. It draws one million plus each day, so I would stay away from the downtown area that weekend for sure. You don't want to be on inner city public transportation on those days either.
It's been about a month so I guess it's time for a fellow Illinoisan to give this thread a good bump. I'm just on the other side of the state so I'm starting to think it'd be a shame to miss this show. I'd love to meet some fellow CT'ers there. Looks like it's going to be a great show in our back yard. I wasn't planning on going originally, but I just received the ANA letter in the mail today and I'm starting to get excited about it. Barring some unforeseen circumstance, I'm seriously planning on being there one way or another. Probably 18th through the 20th.
Ken you coming to Chicago for the convention , the convention is in Rosemont away from the city , and actually even on crowded days at the beach the public trans ie the el isn't too bad , the A train Blueline will take you from the citys downtown out to Rosemont . Just watch out for pickpockets .
I couldnt even go to a coin show that was 45 minutes away. Going to one in Chicago would be crazy lol. everyone who is going have fun!
I plan on attending and hope to meet a few members while I'm there. Hope to see some of you at the show.
In case there's some members that didn't receive the last ANA e-mail about 5 more reasons to go to the convention....here's one of the five: "Super Bourse Imagine a space the size of two Wal-Marts (average size: 108,000 square feet). Now, fill it with silver, gold and paper money. That should give you a good mental picture of the World’s Fair of Money bourse floor (220,000 square feet). That’s one big bourse, and one incredible inventory. There’s a massive U.S. coinage section, along with areas devoted to ancients, world coins and paper money. Plus, the show will feature new inventory every day thanks to the new Daily Tables section. " Don't know about you guys but this advertisement got my attention! lol Wow.
OK I know some of my schedule now. I will be there Thursday the 18th and Friday the 19th. On Thursday I'll be at the Liberty Seated Coin Club meeting from 9:00 - 10:30 and the Civil War Token Society from 4:00 - 5:30. On Friday I'll be at the Society of Ration Token Collectors from 11:00 - 12:00, the American Tax Token Society from 2:00 to 3:00, and the Conder Token Collectors Club from 6:00 - 8:00. Part of the rest of the time I will be working at the Chicago Coin Club's table. I don't know that schedule yet. And I'll probably even be able to spend some time on the bourse floor this time (There is really not much going on in the clubs or Numismatic Theater this year. Typically I spend almost all my time at the club meetings and NT and never make it to the Bourse floor.) Unfortunately I will probably miss the C4 meeting on Saturday.
Likely going on saturday. Hopefully everyone isn't packing up already (like they were at the Central States show). The blueline train stops about a 5 minute walk from the convention center.
Anyone want to do dinner Thursday night with Mike & Carlton and myself? I think we were planning on sticking around the convention center Thursday night... anyone?
Hey Matt, I'll be there Thursday and Friday, coming home on Saturday. I am in for dinner on Thursday. I get into Midway at 8:15AM Thursday morning, anyone local coming from that direction? Looking forward to meeting other CT members at the show!
It looks like I will be there Wednesday and Thursday. We have a family get together on the weekend. LostDutchman, are you planing on dinner close enough to walk or going further out? I could bring my car there as opposed to taking public transportation.
I would like to drive elsewhere and give my friends a little bit of a taste of Chicago, rather than hotel food (or near the hotel food) in Rosemont. If you drive, we would be able to take more people should we get a few more that want to go. I was thinking maybe Giordano's or Rock Bottom. We could also go for thin crust at a few places. It depends largely on what people want to eat.
I will need a ride but I am in for what the locals feel is best. I have been to Chicago a number of times but enjoy good food, wine and company.
I really want to go to this show. My wife can't go though, since her brother and sister-in-law are going to be in town. She would probably hate it anyway, if she did go. I'm trying to get a buddy to go with me, as I don't want to do the 10 hour round trip alone. But I get a discount at marriotts (as I work for one), and there's one nearby. So if I can go, it should be a fairly cheap trip, other than buying coins. Hope to see some of you guys there if I make it!
OK, trying to get a feel for dinner on Thursday night... how about anyone that's interested in attending go ahead and PM me. We will get it set up from there. Matt
