Two possibilities IMO. 1 - that was a labeling mistake. The label should say Damaged/Scratched. Or 2 -the coin has two things wrong with it, harshly cleaned and scratched - and they chose to use the harshly cleaned label instead of the scratched label.

I gotta say,i am shocked at how many of you think that's a 63. I guess that's a reflection on NGC more than anything else, because I don't think that would ever slab 63 at PCGS.

    Yeah, they'd probably give it a 64. J/K!

My gut said that it was one of those true rarities -- an MS60 coin. A damaged/scratched label wouldn't have surprised me, but I wasn't expecting Improperly Cleaned. I agree that it might have been a labelling error.

MS62 I have 1921 that graded 63 and it isn't scratched as badly!

So if a coin has 2 things wrong with it, NGC will only mention one of them? I know ANACS will list both things.

They will list the most important/major factor.

I'm going with VF-20. You should sell it to me at book value.

It sort of looks cleaned to me....I can't really tell for sure though.

Edit: Just saw the post, now that was luck. Because I was leaning toward MS-63.
