Gosh...this thread is so long I can't remember if I posted this already. But it's classic woody.

That one has been there and done that, but it looks like a woody to me.

My 21 S is not a radical woody, but there are some lines in it and nothing really distracting. I like your 21 S Lance and it made me look at mine closer so I thought I would post it. I scoured my collection for other woodies, but this is it until I hit another show or something shakes loose around town. Thanks, matt

Awesome obverse details on that 21-S!!! Is that an NGC holder? What's the grade?

AWESOME 21-S Lance! What's the PCGS grade? 64? Awesome strike too!

I have this NGC graded Proof (PF66) Buffalo Nickel.
Do the striations (stripes) most heavy on the bottom half of this coin qualify this coin as a "woody"?
Note especially the area behind the Indian's head.
Any opinions on this are welcome.

I have seen several nickels posted here as woodies. Funny, but everyone I have seen have been just simple stripes and no patterns like a lot of Lincolns are.

    You're good, BT! PCGS 64RB.

I was doing some housekeeping this morning and ran across two raw woodies in flips. I hadn't given them much thought, I guess, but now I wonder if I should get them graded and slabbed. Woodies rock!

Here is one. I just about killed me to get one of these even unc. (I received 2 negative feedbacks because sellers sold me a cleaned 24-S as both uncleaned and uncirculated.) Anyhow, it is not that poorly struck considering it is a 24-S and it has a descent grain to it.

Yes, perhaps my buffalo is not a true woody?

Nickels are 75% copper and 25% nickel, so I am guessing they might be prone to similar toning patterns as small cents -- but maybe not.

Wheaties are 95% copper and 5% tin and/or zinc.

Lovin it! The 24S is a TOUGH coin, if memory serves me, I think Lance has an amazing one that's well-struck too. If you've never seen his 20's S mints, be sure to look 'em over sometime. He has the best eye for hammered Lincolns I've ever seen. LANCE ROCKS! :thumb:

BadThad, My 21-s is in an NGC MS 65 RB holder. I never know if I should include the grade of the coin when I post it. Just like to get your guys take on it before I post it so you can guess the grade. I just like to behold a coin without a grade to influence me as to if I should like it or not. Also, I don't usually like to post the price I paid for a coin either, but believe it or not, I paid 800 for that one at FUN 2010 and bought it almost immediately and considered it the show maker as I track 65s listed for 1500 plus when they are offered. At least paid for my flight. Matt
