Finally decided to move some of my raw 'bay pick ups over the years into plastic. After considering all three top tpg I've decided to employ NGC. Here are my first 5 (free submissions) after joining NGC.
Take a guess and I'll let you know how they did when I get them back in the next week.

1910-S - 53 (good luck, I love it, but a NCS might not)
    1912-S - EF-45 (40 on a tough day)
1913-S MS-61BN (slider). I love the look, it shows how original the surfaces are. It actually has a light coating of very early stage verdigris. That's what causes the whitish haze. That is an original uncleaned, original patina coin IMO. I will be very intested to see what they do with this one because I've seen many others like this (other years).
1918 - MS-64BN (might be the pic, but the color seems a hair off, rev rim ding keeps it from landing a 65?, it still might 65)
    1995 DDO - AWESOME example! MS-67RD

10-S > Graded MS63 BRN.. a beautiful coin, was very happy to pick it from the bay for less than 40 clams. winner winner with super brn tone and color under good light. Merc and Shoe did the best on this coin.
12-S > Graded XF45... nice and solid imo. I was hoping for AU in some variety, but my personnal grading had this at 45.. no +1 or +anything from NGC on this one. Merc-RLM-and Badness nailed it also.
13-S > Graded MS62 BRN.. Shoe and Badness nailed this very hard to decipher coin, with Heir Badness offering a "perfect" call on the reverse pantia,,, which btw I removed via undisclosed procedures before submitting, after being submitted the reverse looked just the obv... a simple light procedure removed the "book gunk" which Badness correctly describes as the initial stages of the big V. If you see this look on the bay, it's very likely the coin is 'very' original. I stole it on the 'bay. Too ashamed to tell the price.
18-D > actually wrong picture here, but the sister in the book on the 'bay I took is nearly identical...AU58 it is. Merc nailed it.
AND... I apparently submitted the coin as a 1918 also !!, so even though it was a -D, the slab has 1918.
Question - will NGC reslab this mistake for free (should I send it back with my next submission?) Or is the Novelty of a 18D sitting in a 18 slab worth a collectors premium above the coin ? Just wondering what the population of 18-d's in 18 NGC holders is listed at in the pop report ; )

95DD > Graded MS66.. was really hoping for a 67, with potential shot at 68.... at least before I let the coin sit in a flip for over a half decade (damb time flies !!). Anyway, the result of the flip was a dramatic loss of luster over time. Still, a very nice coin... extreemly clean.

I'll be rounding up another submission in the next month or so. Wife has camera on vacation this weekend, so will push the pics of this batch when she gets back.

    Cheers !

Here's the 18-d that came back in the 1918 holder.
Pretty sure the mistake was my fault as I mislabeled it, but still curious if NGC will reholder for free.

Anyway, as to the customer experience with NGC, it was outstanding. These coins were promptly graded and returned as posted on thier site. The order status was also updated regularly and provided me with a view to where the coins were at within the process. No problems, my grades were approximate to thiers (no major surprises)... I'll be back ; )

Wow, I was pretty accurate. Guess my grading abilities aren't as bad as I thought.

    Wouldn't have genuine'd the '13-S if I'd seen after pictures, I bet.

Surprising cause I swear I see wear on the high points above ear on that 95ddo? Otherwise MS66 is about right. They get real picky with 67 on up.

As far as the 18D, I would keep it in the slab as an error. Some people collect slabs, and they might go Coo Coo for Coco Puffs!

It is only a mechanical error, plain and simple. Some people collect them just so they can bash the grading services.

    Baha,

Even though you erred in completing the submission form, the graders and/or QC should have caught the oversight. You can send it back for the correction. If you're a member of the NGC Collectors Society, send a PM to Scott Schechter, explaining the situation and ask him how you should proceed. Scott has always been very helpful.

Those pictures look like completely different coins. From those, I can easily understand the grades given. Even why the 95 got a 66 and I think you were even lucky not to get a RB on that coin.

Quick update - I sent back the mislabeled 18D with a dozen or so random raw's from the old binder. Will let you know how they turn out. NGC turned the 18D in a few days (or less), very fast service. I like them.

I would have left the 18D in the 18 slab as a novelty, but it will be less confusing for other people, especially if you ever want to sell it.
