i am going to close out the guessing ... the winner is seasnake! 2nd place ... ddoomm1 I paid $152.51 ... a 4.25x toning premium ... and I didnt blink twice! 2nd highest bidder was $150.01 If anyone has a toned coin they'd like for us to guess on, feel free to post!
I just tried some shots of a super morgan I own, outside in direct sunlight, with a macro lens and without but in the macro setting. I get clear pics but no amount of tweaking the colors and exposure gives a true representation of the beautiful colors so I will not be able at this time to post a coin but, I'm trying. Sorry 'bout that, someone else?
If I were to venture an opinion, melt. Maybe a tad less than melt. Problem with bullion is that most of the people that heavily invest in this stuff want blast white and shiny. Also, most of the people who heavily invest in bullion aren't collectors. Collectors appreciate a beautiful toner and your pieces really rate in my book. That said, the collector in me would offer "melt" as I would consider your beautiful pieces no more than bullion. I know I may sound a bit harsh in this view but please take and accept this opinion as one from a collector.... And welcome to the forum dear fellow.......
...opinions sadly but thankfully accepted . I got them at $1+ spot but I was expecting you guys to say $50+, ...and less than melt even? that I didn't expect! people suck, lol
Yeah, you did well at 1 plus melt. Toning premium on bullion has always escaped me, but many folks go crazy for those modern silver dollars with some neon induced toning. If any of us were smart we'd buy 100 oz. of those from the mint, spary some dollar books with some liquid sulfer media, let it soak in, and then put all those dollars in them for some quick toning premuim. Retire rich, quit job, move to tropical island, and just buy and tone silver dollars for a living.
They're beautiful pieces, and don't dispair. They'll always be worth "intrinsic" value. But collector value? That's something else. Take for example something that I enjoy collecting......Classical Commemoratives (US). A blast white "Columbian" Commemorative in mint state can be had for a rather reasonable price, say $25-$30, but, get a toner in there.....a "comely toner", and the price goes skyward. We collectors are a weird sort.......
Wondering about how on earth I never saw this 140 page thread before. I have a 2.6oz silver medal, I guess you would call it. I saw the above post and this one is a medal and not really a round, so I am wondering. It is also nicely toned, though the photo is a little dark. How much would you pay for it? Melt is around $75-80
Nice guess Green. This one was a Heritage auction. I did get a nice toner off of Teletrade a little bit ago.
Am so glad I ran into this thread. It is like metal detecting. You never know what your gonna dig up.
