Don't let the counterfeit coin discourage you. It happens. I'm interested in buying the counterfeit ASE if I can see better pictures. Add it to my collection of other fakes.
My "thanks" to everyone who has participated in this discussion so far, genuinely; "thank you". But damn..... I am soooooo embarrassed!!!!!!
Sounds good to me I tried for ages to get the pictures just right. Do you have any tips for my photo-taking of coins? Something which can help me take clearer pictures? As always, any help or tips would be highly appreciated
Counterfeit silver dollars like the one the OP has are really common. The counterfeiters will change the date, crudely, to something that looks much older.
It would only be embarrassing if you didn't learn from the experience. Most of us have some bad purchases up our sleeves.
Either that, or futile shenanigans involving various coin-cleaning techniques. For some reason, the latter surfaces when younger and the former hits when older
The 1906 is a hybrid of a fake of an American Silver Eagle, and a fantasy coin - there were no dollars in 1906. I'd be very suspicious about the other coins. Next time, I'd take a magnet with me. Heck, an antique shop probably has a latch or something that is magnetic. I can't think of many coins that are magnetic that are worth collecting, so that's a pretty good screening device. Yes, a good learning experience.
