    So CT

My boss tells me today "Next month when you're taking time off to go to Chicago WFOM, take some of my coins. They're sacagwea 2000 gold dollars but with nothing on them but the rim...so no portrait of her or the reverse either...just the rim is engraved. He said a few fell out of the same roll. Uncirc.

Sorry no pics he hasn't given them to me yet..Any findings of these yet?

Are normal blanks have rims though?

technically once the rims are made in the upsetting mill they become planchets.

Blanks do not have rims. Blanks that have gone through the upset mill come out with rims and are called planchets.

It sounds like your boss's coins bypassed the coin press but went through the edge lettering machine. I would call them "unstruck dollar coins with edge lettering".

What in the world would one of these be worth??? What mint are they from?

Why would a 2000 Sacagawea have edge lettering? Those didn't get edge lettering until later... I think 2009?

If he really has something like that, that would be incredibly rare. None of my Sacagawea coins had edge lettering until around 09'.

Yeah, those Sacs shouldn't have any edge lettering. I think the OP means something else by "engraved." The info would have to be more clear, and pics would help.

I'm very sorry to keep you all waiting for a response. He told me "I have some coins to give to you to take down to Chicago. They are Sacagawea Dollars with nothing engraved on it (nothing typed on it or pictured) but the edges. I haven't seen the coins yet but will bug him soon! The show is Aug 16th-20th.

Confirmation - I saw him today, the 30th, and he said they are NOT engraved on the side, the edge is just there. So it's the coin without anything on it, obverse or reverse, which I believe is called a blank platchet?

I still can't wait to see them! =] Pix will come for sure!

A Golden Dollar blank planchet does command a good premium.

Did your boss offer a piece of the action?

Yeah, sounds like a blank planchet. But if that's the case, how does he know that they're "sacagwea 2000 gold dollars"? The year wouldn't be on them. Also, I'd make sure that they're real, and not just PMD. It seems strange that, unless he sees a LOT of dollar coins, that he'd find more than one blank planchet. They are fairly rare.

He has been dealing with dollar coins EXCLUSIVLY since before 2000, and he got them when Sac's were the only gold ones, so we know they are Sacagawea Dollars. They came right out of a roll of Sac Dollar Coins - $25. Uncirc.
