I am not as much of a coin guy as I am a paper money nut. I do however like coins. I recently purchased this coin and I paid good money for it. You could say blindly but I like it. I have a short film on it ans some pictures. What would you guys say about it? Value, etc. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x7yzoc_m071-video_lifestyle
MS63 PL Probably worth in the neighborhood of $50 but you would likely get less than that for it because it is uncertified. I like it!
As is often the case with the 1880-S you have a coin that has been fully struck and is either "Proof-Like" or "Deep-Mirror Proof-Like". It's difficult to tell exactly from a picture. While some Morgan dollars might command a very high premium in this condition, the 1880-s is not one of them and is in fact, of the series, the date one found most readily with proof-like surfaces and the kind of cameo contrast exhibited by your coin. As for a grade, again, also hard to tell from a picture with a coin like this. The pictures might lead one to assign a grade of MS63 PL or DMPL, but I have a sneaking suspicion that in person I'd call it an MS64 PL or DMPL. A very nice coin!
I would grade it a MS62 Proof like cameo. the coin has a lot of bag marks blemishes in the focal area of the coin that;s will take the grade down . The focal area is the area that you eye hits first when you first take a glace of the coin which is the cheek area on the face known as the main focal area of the obverse. The coin is still a great coin for the cameo look. Alien JAZEC
I would call it MS63PL...maybe even DMPL, I would have to see it in hand. The 1880-S is known to be the best struck date in the series.
ooooohhh, hahaha I clicked a recommened thread at the bottom, didn't realize. I was I was into coin collection a few years before I was, now peace's are 30-40 bucks for common dates in XF, back a few years ago, it was 9-12!!!!!1
I know exactly what you mean, and because of the recent price increases I have had to put off purchasing Morgan and Peace Silver Dollars.
