Silver Certificate & Silver Obtained Thru Redemption

I was wondering if anyone has seen one these and if they are rare. I have not seen one before. I bought it on the fly with out doing any research because thought it it was kinda cool and I do not hve one in my collection.

Ive never seen one of those

 

It looks like a portion of a silver certificate.

 

Its all all one solid piece of paper Stack Attack? Because that is like the top and bottom part of a silver certificate. ALSO if you where to type in what it says under the note its hard to read from that pic. Id be easier to know what you have if you type all the white lettering on the thing.

 

That's very cool, I would have bought it too.

 

I am at a loss on your purchase. What is it and how much do those sell for? Either the pic isn't that good or my eyes are getting worse.

 

I appears to say the following:

"99.99% PURE SILVER BULLION FROM THE U.S. TREASURY OBTAINED FROM REDEMPTION OF A SILVER CERTIFICATE. THIS REDEMPTION PRIVILEGE HAS NOW BEEN REVOKED BY CONGRESSIONAL ACTION EFFECTIVE JUNE 24, 1966"

I'm unsure of the year there.

 

That is odd... I can't see the govt having a bunch of little silver beads on hand to trade for a paper dollar.
I was always told that the exchange for silver was for an actual silver dollar. ie Peace, Morgan, or equivalent...
???

To exchange for a silver dollar would certainly be much more convienent for the govt.

 

Well, except for the fact that then they'd have to go to the trouble of turning all their silver into coins....

Until 1934, silver certificates could only be issued against silver dollars in the Treasury. After that, they could also be issued against uncoined silver bullion. That's why the Series 1934 and later silver certificates say "one dollar in silver" rather than "one silver dollar" as on earlier issues. It's also a large part of the reason why no silver dollars were minted after 1935.

In the great silver certificate redemption in the '60s, the government paid out quite a bit of silver in the form of "silver granules" like these. They had the granules pre-weighed into $1 and $100 bags (and maybe other sizes too, I dunno), so they could easily be handed out over the counter as silver certificates came in.

 

It should be 1968. Legislation passed in 1967 made 6/24/68 the last day to redeem silver certificates for silver.

 

The photos were from the ebay auction so I am unable to read it very well either. As soon as I receive the item I will post new pictures. Thanks for everyones input.

 

This is a privately issued souvenir. The amount of silver granules is apt to be lightweight as the makers sometimes kept some for themselves. They were advertised quite heavily back in the mid sixties.

 

The"real-deal" silver for REDEMPTION...

Hello everybody,
I am hoping to show my silver from redemption...It comes in a clear plastic box w/heat stamp red lettering reading:SILVER-PAK 371.1/4 GRAINS-773 TROY OZ.SILVER PAID ON DEMAND BY U.S.TREASURY ON REDEMPTION OF $1 SILVER CERTIFICATE(ABOVE MENTIONED "DOLLAR BAG").
Inside is a shrink wrap plastic package od silver grains(also said before is that the one at top is custom made,assay offices took the paper..not make cool little "keep sakes",along w/a certificate of when SC was redeemed&number of bill.
These are approx.3in. by 1/4in.snap box

 

That's pretty cool! Are the silver pieces larger than say, silver leaf?

 

Seeing as thr person who made this item gives the weight, I suspect this particular item might be full weight of silver granules. "773 troy ounce" should have a decimal point before it.

 

If refering to mine(SILVER-PAK)Yes the peice's are better then flake after all these did come from a Govt. assay office and the quality show's...Thank's for liking!!!,they are pretty cool,even the "aftermarket" one's&custom made,all of these are rarely seen.

 

Does it say anywhere the weight of the silver, or have you weighed the silver package?

 

Yes it is marked on the outside 371 1/4 grains-.773 troy oz as stated in original post...And i have weighed it myself.Here are a few more pic's so a better idea is given..If refering to the "SILVER-PAK"
I cannot pinpoint ANYTHING on this except where it came from,no value(besides weight),etc.I have only seen like 5 of this kind,many other styles have appeared but not as "official" looking.I got this from a 50 yr.+coin dealer who recently went out of business he told me that he personaly cashed all his silver cert.at assay office in 67&dumped 90% of them in the 80's(damm hunt bros!)i bought two..wish i had bought the 6 he had left.
