I saw on TV that the presidential dollar series is pretty worthless. I didn't see the whole thing just that one statement. Is this true? The series ins't too old I didn't think the prices would go up that much over this time. But is the prices for them dropping?
There's tons being minted and I personally don't see them going for much anytime soon. I don't think they are "worthless" and I'm getting one of each from the bank, but its not something I would necessarily collect to try and make money off of.
Except for those that are submitted and are lucky enough to get the MS/PR70, they really haven't increased in value.
Not worthless at all...they're worth a dollar each. Personally, I wouldn't pay more for one regardless of grade, but thats me. Guy
I just slap 'em in 2X2 and sell them at the local flea market, two for three bucks. I usually sell about twenty lots each time, and most people aren't even aware that they exist (or can get them at face at any bank).
BUncirc is 110% correct. I collected these for a registry set early on. The MS66's, and 67's, which where almost top-pops at the time, well....what was going for $200 or more just 2 years ago, man, they don't even fetch 1/4 of that now. There are SOOO many minted (which won't be the story in the near future), the pops are just going wild. Check Teletrade's realized prices. Even the MS67's are going for less than shipping costs. As BUncirc said, unless you grade them, and make MS68's or PR 70's (or MEL;s or some other type of error), these will not be worth the grading fees. I bailed out and lost half, though if I had waited longer, I'd have really been upside down on them. Get a Dansco, fill it up, and in the end, you'll at least have a few $$ saved to spend. This is one series that has NO potential, unless, as I said, you are fortunate enough to make a top-pop. Collecting these for a registry set, mistake. For investment purposes??? NEVER. There are millions of these sitting in bank vaults. As I said, for an album, they're ok, but for anything else....no way. Put your money into some other series. Ultra moderns are way too risky, as they just mint way too many. Errors in ultra moderns are the only thing that'll be worth anything. As for the Prez $$, just look at the Washington Missing Edge Lettering. Big $$ early on, now, they don't even bring $100....I can't even sell mine, in PCGS MS65, for $75. Save your money for REAL coins. These won't appreciate for the next 2 generations, if even then.
I believe I left out this statement....they have simply TANKED, and there's no coming back. I feel fortunate to have gotten what I got for them when I DID sell them off.
Well thats not good news. I got a stack of them thinking they were worth something. I like collecting the series and will continue but, not sinking any money into now . It would've been nice to collect something worth a bit though.
got about 25-30 of them (got them $1 each) and 13 uncirculated-60. I think i paid around $25 for them.
i srted to collect them but after the first 7 i cancelled my subscription with the mint, they are pretty uninspiring when compared to the state quarters programme.............
