have you ever lost a coin, and know you didnt lose them? I have a couple of coins that I can not locate. nothing real special but mean a lot to me. I keep all my common coins in a safe, but i have ripped everything out of it and found nothing.
I can honestly say no, I have never lost a coin from my collection. If I did I'm sure I would be every bit as upset as you are. Hopefully it will turn up, you'll find it when you stop looking for it. That is usually what happens when I miss place something. Good luck with the search.......
A 1909 Lincoln cent when I was about 7 or 8 years old (lost it in my friend's yard), a 1787 English shilling in XF and an 1825 Large Cent in VG, and well as various coins that went missing during my absence.
I went on my weekly thrift store marathon. First, I stopped at the corner store for some coffee and was given a silver dime in change. By the time I got home, I realized I had spent it somewhere.
I had some loose foreign coins on a shelf. The cat got up there and knocked some of them off behind the shelf. There is a small gap between the wall and the floor. With a flashlight I can see three coins, but there is no way to retrieve them. I'm not sure what ones were lost, but I did have some silver on the shelf.
Yes, I found a penny once in circulation, the observe was pretty and red and the reverse was blank! I was about 15 years old, I kept that penny until I went into the Army and when I went to find it years later when I picked up collecting coins again it was no where to be found.
But I have one better than that! In 1984 I had gotten back into collecting coins and one day I got a penny in change that someone had drilled a hole in. Well I spent it as fast as I could to get rid of it. A couple of days later I got it back at a different store. I know it was the same penny unless someone drilled the hole into an entire roll. Anyway I spent it again. After receiving the same penny back in change the next day I figured it was meant for me to keep that penny so I put it on my key chain. I still have it today 27 years later
With everyone on the lookout....and I'm not trying to be insulting...but I literally laughed out loud when I read this! Now, I would have thought there would not be one 'No, I haven't'. I've 'lost' (suppose misplaced is a better term.....but misplacine something for longer than 3 months, I guess thats losing it) some, as most have done.
The coins I know for sure are gone there maybe more are a ASE proof and a colorized ASE. The family found them when cleaning my grandfathers house, after he passed away. They were wrapped with wrapping paper with my name on them.
I once had a Morgan Dollar that I carried on and off for years. It was worn so smooth that you could only just barely see the outline of Liberty on one side and the eagle on the other. One day I went to get from its drawer but it wasn't there and I haven't seen it since.
A couple of years ago I got a 1979-P 'near date' Susan B. at a car wash that gave change in quarters and dollar coins. I washed my truck and afterward realized I put it into the machine to wash my truck. I hate when that happens.
