Good idea, or just put inside a closet. Unless the fire is in front of the safe, I have two layers of 3/4 inch fire rated sheetrock between it and the fire. Just one layer is 4 hour fire rating I believe. Between that and the mass of the safe I think the coins would be safe unless the fire went on unabated for over 8 hours.

My collections are mostly in Intercept Shield albums, some Dansco, and in safety deposit boxes at the bank. My bullion and holdered coins are there too, in various kinds of storage boxes and containers. In order to save space, I remove capsules from the OGP and keep them in the containers, and store the OGP in storage boxes at home. I change out dessicant packs in the safety deposit boxes periodically. I used to keep a lot of things at the house in my safe, but I wondered what happen if somebody got to me before I could get to one of my guns. A gun in your face would pretty much about make anyone open their safe. The only thing I keep in my safe now is what I might be working on, or maybe something that I recently ordered and got in the mail.

I have seen several discussions about this matter at CT. Ideally, I wish I could keep it all at home, but it's just not that safe. It would really be nice to have it all available and right in front of you. I've seen and wish I had some of the neat secret rooms I've seen over the years. Some were underneath stairs, where the stairs lifted, revealing a hidden secret room that you would never have imagined could have been there. I think that would be the ideal situation.

Some coins are in the safe deposit box, the bulk silver is in a storage unit. A local club member had two boxes, one marked "junk" and the other marked "valuable coins" in his storage unit. When it was broken into, the thieves took guess which box? Storing silver safely is a big problem in large quantity.

If you were trying to prevent the government from finding the stash of precious metals, what would you do:

Bury the coins where no one would find it.

Find a storage unit where the company does not report your information to any authorities.

Leave it with a relative or trusted friend?

Put it in a safe deposit box in a wealthy town with the theory that the DOJ has bigger fish to fry than you?

Had to return a Mossberg. It jammed up after every other shot during my 1st time taking it out.

    I use http://www.hornady.com/store/45-Colt-225-gr-FTX-LEVERevolution/ as well.

However, I love my Ruger way more than my Judge. And my PT 1911 more than my 44. And love my FiveSeven the most of all. ;)
