I was surffing on ebay, not really looking for anything (except Iceland) of course. I happened across an 1927 Australian Parliment Florin. The detail on the reverse just blew me away and I had to have it! I also found 3 others, one the bidding is still open and the other 2 are on their way to me. The detail is just beautiful, you don't see designs like this any more, a real masterpeice. This will be another one of those coins I can't get enough of. The theme commemorates the opening of the new parliment house in Canberra Au. I hope you enjoy it, Any and all comments are welcome as always Thanks For looking, Mark
Thanks Matt, the reverse is what sold me for sure. They arent rare at all but I really don't care to much about that kind of thing. Thanks!, Mark
great pick up mark, there are also other commemorative florins from australia which may interest you...........
The other nice thing about these coins is they are fairly inexpensive which was a suprise to me. I'm thinking about getting as many as I can if the price is right. Does anyone else collect these? If so I would really like to see what you have, PLEASE post your photos! Thanks for all the replys!
Yes a very pretty reverse. I have always been floored by British Empire coinage. The reverses are so nice and well designed, with such pedestrian obverses. I haven't really cared for a British obverse since Victoria. I understand ya'll love your monarch and what not, but they are very unappealing, stale obverses. Having said that, US coins are stale and lame now as well. Maybe you just beat us to the stale and lame punch by a few years. Anyway, yes love that reverse, especially in such high grade. I haven't collected Australian much, (for reasons above), so didn't even know it existed.
I agree with the other guys Mark, a beautiful coin. I know we have some Australian collectors here so hopefully they'll comment on it. Nice addition to your collection. Bruce
Thanks Bruce, I just had to have it. Now I have something else to look for at the Philly show. I'm hoping to win the auction I'm bidding on, it is a knock out. It may be worth having it graded. If I do win I'll post it here, hopefully those who collect Australian coins will give me some opinions on that. Thanks for the comments Bruce!
I also like the design, so I got one of those a few years back. But yours is in much better condition than mine
It's VERY nice none the less, It's a great looking coin no matter what the condition, Thanks for posting it!
