Ben, you are probably not aware of how many ancient collectors are extremely jealous of you. I would try to take a look at medieval and ancient coins as well at some point. What I wouldn't give to be able to live in Israel and go to those coin shops there every week.........
I have to find the stores first, remember Anyways the only store I've been to so far was trying to rip me off... but I guess most stores in touristy areas do
Yeah, that is the same around the world. The tourists buy the overpriced junk. Don't worry, we have them too in Las Vegas selling ancients for 5 times their value. I can ask around for you in Jerusalem, I know a couple of collectors who have went there. Like I said earlier, Ebay would be ok for you, but shipping would be high unless you found a seller from the middle east. I just would find it hard to believe that, in Jerusalem or Tel Aviv at least, there aren't some coins stores. I have been to them around the world and most always have "junk" boxes of common world coins priced cheap.
oh no it's not, gibraltar is a crown colony as are st helena and the falkland islands, but it is definitely not part of great britain...................
Great point. Ben E I think its fine to make a list of countries, but you will find the further abck you go the more countries there are. The beauty is you can cut it off at any point you like, but many collect all countries in existence from 1900 to now, or from 1800 to now. Your collection willbe a wonderful learning tool of geography and history to you. My son is now -2 months old, (still in my wife), but I plan on getting hiom started similarly when he gets older. Just buying 20 pounds of coins and picking out various countries.
I think it is approximately countries from 1900 to now, and yes so far it has helped a lot with geography and every new coin I get from a new country opens up interesting things to learn about
Interesting idea, I'd almost just rather pay directly for coins I want than buy coins to trade. What if no one wants half of the coins I bought of that pound (including me)? I'd be stuck with 'em.
