If the postal service loses a package, does the Ebay guaratee cover this? I thought some coins/medals would come today, and the tracking number does not show that the items have reached my post office.

All they show are that it has been sorted. From experience, I have seen they show nothing else until it reaches my Post Office. I will not push the panic button until Friday though if they are not here.

The seller is responsible for the successful delivery. If it does not arrive, you do not pay. eBay will back you up on this.

This is also the reason why sellers pay for insurance, not buyers. Don't ever let a seller pull a fast one and somehow try to blame you, the buyer, for a lost package because you didn't buy insurance. Insurance protects the seller, not the buyer.

lkeigwin nailed it. Delivery is the seller's responsibility.

Thanks for the replies. It amazes me that some of the sellers on Ebay do not even have a tracking number. Also so far only three have placed any insurance onto the package.

Give it a couple of days. The Postal Services' tracking system is measured in "Oz" time.......

I bought a NGC graded MS65 1941 Merc dime! When it did show up after a week I was reimbursed by the seller! 1 month to the day it did arrive! I contacted the seller and paid him! Sometimes mail gets lost but it will show up eventually! So just be patient, most sellers are very cooperative in this regard!! GregB

One cavet. If the seller follows ebay and paypals instructions, ships it as they say to and the post office shows that it was delivered, he, and probably Ebay/paypal is off the hook. For example if it is under $250 and he sent it with delivery confirmation, and the post office says it was delivered, even if it was delivered to the wrong address as far as eBay and the post office are concerned it was delivered. That is the problem with delivery confirmation, it just confirms it was delivered somewhere, not that it was delivered to the address it was shipped to. Insured or signature confirmation is a little better, but anyone can sign for the package. Restricted delivery is safer but more costly, in that case you can specify who is allowed to sign for the package. For restricted delivery or registered mail the mailman is supposed to require identification before having you sign to make sure you are the authorized person. In all the time I have been receiving Registered mail I have only been asked for ID one time.

Condor thanks for the information. Thankfully, I received most of my purchases today. I am still amazed some just placed the coin in an envelope and shipped it. Are you saying this is against Ebay rules?

The only requirement is the seller has to ship the items via the service they charged you for in the sale, i.e. USPS, or UPS, etc. As far as how they package the item for shipment, that's seller's choice. Nothing in eBay or PayPal's rules requiring the seller to use bubblewrap, bubble envelopes, or styrofoam peanuts.

However, it would be to the seller's advantage to take every precaution possible to protect the item and reduce the risk of damage during shipping.

In order for the ebay protection to be in force the package has to be sent with delivery confirmation if the value is less than $250, or signature confirmation if it is over $250. Insurance signature, or Registered signatures do not count. A coin dropped into an envelope and shipped without delivery confirmation is not covered.

Exactly correct....even if the insurance tag is scanned and shows a delivery, it does not 'count' to ebay/Paypal. If you ship something, you best have delivery confirm (or sig confirm, depending on value...as conder said, $250 is the line), or you are up 'that' creek without a paddle in sight. Plain and simple...del or sig confirm is an absolute necessity. Even if insured, you will likely not prevail in the claim, as the ins WILL show delivered by the P.O. It's a buyers world in ebay/Paypal's eyes. No if's, and's, or but's about it. And the amount of sellers that still don't buy the del/sig confirm is astounding (then you have sellers that just use an envelope with stamps)...that is going to be a huge problem in the future (it's probably more rampant now than we realize), but in the future, it's going to be, well, they say there's no such thing as a sure thing...this WILL be and IS a sure thing, you can bet on it. For those that have no morals/scruples/ethics, there will be so many claims filed with ebay/Paypal for not having a confirmation on it....and the seller will lose EVERY time. Follow the rules, very simple rules, when shipping, and you won't have a problem.

I will also add that many sellers insure their packages outside of postal insurance. The USPS insurance is just too expensive for items less than five hendred dollars or so. If you get a package from me all you will see is that you have to sign for it. It will not have that "INSURED" steal me label on it. My private insurance is for my protection because no matter if it's damaged or lost on the way to you I'm out the cost of the item not you.
Oh and eBay will force me to give you a refund a long time before my insurance claim is paid. Been there done that.

There are no restrictions as to how the item was shipped. If the buyer pays with eligible payment methods does not receive it, he is covered. Period. Even if the seller ships it via Russian pony express, the buyer is still covered.

Those are the restrictions for the SELLER to be able to prove delivery. If the seller shipped per conder's restrictions and delivery is confirmed, the buyer cannot file for non-delivery.
