Where could I buy "normal" world coins

    Hi everyone,

So I'm trying to collect coins from every country in the world. Pretty easy, right? :D So I'm looking for somewhere i could buy normal everyday coins for a reasonable price, but like from a lot of different countries. eBay is too difficult, they charge way too much for just one coin, and I don't want to spend $5.00 for 6 coins when I only wanted one or two in the first place.

So if anyone had any ideas, I'd really appreciate it! (or if you want to sell me some of your world coins...)

    Thanks!
    Ben

BTW: if you are interested to know what countries I have and which I am looking for, you can see this (bold are ones I have so far):

I'd think you could buy them by the pound on eBay....

Are you looking for current coins? Maybe post an ad here describing what you're looking for... plenty of foreign collectors here... just not me.

My first thought is find a local coin store. Many of these have world coin boxes, with a low fee each, that you can pick through. This is an inexpensive way to try to fill a bunch of these holes.

ben, i looked at your list and noticed you had puerto rico on there. it is a us territory, so they use the exact same coins that the usa uses.

I cancelled my subscription to Coin World 2-3 years ago, but I used to see adds in the Classifieds Section for bulk lots of world coins. I don't know how those prices might compare to eBay. There were three listings for "world coin lots" on eBay and one was $12.95/lb.

Just 3? There are tons on Ebay. Just go to world coins and search "lbs". I was going to suggest that, but it appears he is in Israel and shipping would be high.

Like I said, I only searched "world coin lots". I didn't know they sold them by the ton. Of course, shipping for that amount would be high no matter where it was sent.

I'll try looking at eBay, thanks everyone. :)

Yup. Good idea, I'll do that once I have 10 posts... hey look, its my 10th post, perfect :D

Ah, that was my first thought too, to be honest, but I haven't found any coin stores here in Israel yet :(

Oops, I'll fix that :D Thanks for pointing it out.

I found a listing on eBay for $7.5/lb +shipping does that sound pretty reasonable?

I think it does. I'm going to have to buy a few pounds :D

    EDIT: Link

Ben do you want current coins of the countries or former ones? For example do you want Francs or Euros (Luxembourg)? Also Gibraltar is part of Great Britain, so they use the pound but the coins typically feature as slightly different design. I may have some coins to trade as I don't have any Israel coins yet :)

There are relatively large weekly meetings of collectors and sellers in Ashdod, i think its like a show. In Jerusalem there are quite serious amounts of shops and collectors meetings, not a problem to find those.

I still think eBay is the best solution, just got to wait for the right opportunity.

I don't mind having former coins from countries, I think the euros are actually sort of ugly and all the same. Well I have plenty of Israeli coins at my disposal so if you'd like to trade then we can continue through PM ;)

Where are they and how can I find them? I've tried searching online, haven't found anything.

Read and ask around at http://www.collect.co.il/forums.aspx

There are plenty of people from different areas of the country in this forum, they will advise shops in your area, if there are any.
