Greetings all, found this roll coin hunting just a little while ago. I read where this is collectible but I can't understand if it could be an error. Something about the weed stalk on the reverse. Something about the tip of the stalk? What I see is the right stalk doesn't have those parallel lines running through to the end of the stem like the left one does. Is that what they're talking about?
? I know not what information you are referring to, but to me, it is just a well worn cent, that's all.
There are some dates that have die cracks in the wheat stalks. I don't think the 1934 has any special varieties. But I don't know much anymore.
Not an error, but definitely a nice coin roll hunting find. 1934 is the pivotal year beyond which all Lincoln Wheat cents are considered more "modern" and readily available. The pre-1934 stuff from the Depression era and earlier is almost considered a separate category. In fact, the Numismedia database splits them into "Lincoln Cents (1909-1933)", and "Modern Lincoln Cents (1934-current)". I guess the same is true for nickels and dimes as well. After 1934, mintages rose and the coins become more common.
