    Thanks wolleytree, robec and taylor101!

It's so interesting, but I have (only) 4 third-party-graded nickels in my small collection, 2 Jeffersons and 2 Buffalos -- and I just noticed how I have matching (colorwise) pairs, one set in green and the other set in gold.

    The Gold Set:

    The Green Set:
    1937_Buffalo_Proof_NGC.jpg 1940_Jefferson.jpg

    Funny how that worked out!

This arrived yesterday. I love the luster which shows off its colors.

I hope you like it too!

Beauty of an IHC. Looks like a 65 to me, only one semi-distracting hit in those big pictures. Absolutey beautiful. Good pickup.

That would have been my guess too, Mark. Even the tiny nick in the neck is hard to see and seems unusually magnified in the pix.

    PCGS graded it 64RB.

i dont get PCGS and how they grade ... if that was a morgan it would be a 65 ...

I agree, it looks like a 65 to me except for those tiny corrosion spots on the rev.
    If thats what it is...

If you figure it out, would you let me know please? :( Here's a 1926 Sesqui $2.5 gold graded NGC MS62 I got today in the mail. I shopped for one for a couple of years before finding this one at a very good price IMO. Sorry the pics aren't better, coins this small test my photography skills. Not an expert on grading 1926 Sesqui's, but personally I wouldn't have been surprised to see one this nice in an MS64 slab.....

    Lance;

That is one heck of an IHC you've got there. I would have thought MS65 also, but you never know with those TPGs. IHCs are my favorite cent type. I love how the toning has mingled with the beautiful red on the coin. Its a keeper as far as I am concerned, but if you ever want to sell, look me up.

    Very truly yours,
    Brenton (thecoinczar)

I think those spots are PVC or verdigris. They're microscopic but bothersome enough that I sent the coin to PCGS yesterday to conserve it.

I also sent along this one I bought raw. I was going to stick it in an XF/AU album but it doesn't match the look of the rest.

WOW!! I love that 1915 Lincoln. Is that an MPL?
You bought that raw? Holy cow

Thanks, WL. No, it's not an MPL but it does have a great strike and nice surfaces. Luster and color are impressive.

I bought it from one of the better sellers on ebay. His pix were just okay but I knew from past experience that he has a very good eye and sells nice coins. I waffled, made a low offer, and he accepted. I was shocked when I opened the package. Fortunately, this time it was a good shock. LOL.

superb lkeigwin!! sounds like you got a real bargain there.

I actually thought it was a MPL ... are you positive that it's not????

    A few reasons:

    1. i dont see a mark on the coin
    2. it has tremendous detail
    3. it appears to have a wide flat rim
    4. it has that dimpled appearance of MPLs
    5. it has the great (gorgeous) toning that many MPLs have

    keep up the good hunt!

I am 95% positive. I was 100% positive until I dug around and found this thread on 1915 MPL diagnostics. It is authored by my friend Bob Campbell. He's the expert (he's modest and would never accept this title). I think Bob is on this forum. He usually goes by "robec".

Anyway, here are some of Bob's pix highlighting die polish lines that he says are diagnostic. Below each cropped image of his real MPL are similar pix of my coin above.

With a little imagination I can see some similarities. You're making me wonder, WL! But seriously, I think the rims give it away. They're square but not entirely square all around the coin. (The coin's in the mail to PCGS so I can't re-inspect it.)

This is fun but maybe it's the wrong thread. Sorry, guys!
    Lance.

No doubt that Lance's 1915 is an absolutely gorgeous coin. And while the rims are reasonably flat and sharp, they are not MPL flat and sharp. Here is an image of one of mine, not a 1915 but the rims are basically the same for the series.

i see some similarities also ... however robec makes a good point

be sure to let us know what PCGS says (curious minds want to know)

boy if you got an MPL for Unc prices ... what a steal.
