The coin you posted is called an "Athiest Cent" because part (or all) of IGWT has been obscured by the cud. (That that IS a cud alright.) What's it worth? Some but not a lot. I don't know for sure but I would guess less than $20 but don't rely on my estimate.
thanks for the help guys. I got my redbook in the mail a few days ago and have been roll searching looking for errors and key dates ect. Hobo you were right the book has been a very big help.
Glad to hear it. You will enjoy the hobby much better by knowing what you are buying rather than snapping up everything that catches your eye.
Saw a similar item the other day sell for $70 on eBay, though that piece had nearly 40% of the obverse surface covered with "cud". I'd estimate maybe $15-$25. Try and list it on eBay if you're willing to sell it. Probably the best place for this type of error. -Brian
I wanted to try and sell the penny so I listed it on ebay last night. I have never sold anything on ebay so I put a reserve on it. It is a cool find for sure and my first error coin find but I would like to get rid of it and pick up some more Buffalo Nickels for my collection. Check it out if you want to, http://cgi.ebay.com/1990-Penny-Huge...81?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item415b62dc25
Make sure you're a good seller. This means: 1) Good communication - Thank the buyer for payment, ship the next day after payment. 2) Use USPS with delivery confirmation. Email notification the day the coin ships along with the DC#. Thank them again, tell them to contact you if there are ANY problems. 3) Leave the buyer immediate feedback after paying. I absolutely HATE sellers that don't take these simple steps and leave the buyer in the dark.
