How do I get a numismatic education

The ANA offers many great courses in quite a few areas of numimatics. I highly recommend them.

Learning from an experienced collector or a dealer is another way of gaining some education in numismatics.You don't necessarily have to go back to school to do this.

 

Alternatively,you can get a numismatic education right here on CoinTalk.

I think a good education consists of all three.

 

Along with your own library of numismatic publications. Its always a good idea to invest in some good books on the subject.

A Guide book of United States Coins (Red Book)

Cherrypickers Guide to Rare Die Varieties of U.S. Coins

ANA Grading Standards for U.S. Coins or

Photograde, whichever you prefer, or both

Krause Standard Catalog of World Coins or

Any book that focuses on your area of interest. These are just a few of the books that I personally own that I believe are essential.

 

This forum is a mighty powerful learning tool.

How's ND doing ? Anybody know ?

He was quite an asset to this forum, IMHO.

 

I last saw him posting on www.coinforum.org a few weeks back.He sent me a PM telling me that he was on www.coincommunity.com for a while & left once he found that it wasn't to his liking.

ND has had health problems and as far as I know hasn't been on any forum for some time. I think he still does the shows and such but from what I hear has backed off quite a bit.

If you are collecting Canadian coins,you can always read 'Coins of Canada' by J.A. Haxby & R.C. Willey or the Charlton catalogues as well as Krause.

also buy all of the book you can and place them through out the house, one of the best places for me to study is on the throne. actually you are there, you are going to be there, and anything has to be better than the task at hand. LOL

I ended up here because I was doing a google search trying to find out if there are any college programs that offer any type of numismatic education or courses. As of yet, I can't find any.

What if you are a YN and cant sign up for the classes! What i do i spend almostt 60% of my money on coin books!
