Hello, I have had a 1939 Silver Half Dollar in my room for a while and I finally decided to look up the value. I wasn't surprised that it wasn't worth much (it's not in the best shape, I found it on a roller-coaster, so I'm not surprised), but when I tried to look for the Mint Mark, there was none on the lower left part of the reverse side, which means it was made in Philadelphia. But then, I noticed an odd W carved into the lower right portion of the reverse side. It certainly doesn't look like a human could have carved it in, it's too perfect. It's located right under the Eagle's lowest feather. Anyone know what this could mean?
That's the designer's initials (Adolph A. Weinman)... they appear on all Liberty Walking halves. Welcome to CoinTalk!
True... the "AW" was there, but disappeared after excessive die polishing. I'm putting a '41 proof on my "want list"!
