Medals are a lot of fun to collect. There are no limitations or prerequisites imposed by government authority like you would find with coinage.

Very very nice Chris I particularly like the medal with the angel on the reverse in your second posting.
You only have around 990 more to post? :smile

I've got a Civil War token that looks like it was made from the same dies as yours:

I'd need to take photos for about 700 of them, first. A couple years ago, I lost most of my photos to a virus and had to start over, but I get tired just thinking about it.

good luck with those 700 medal photos. After learning of you lost your images I'm going to burn my coin images to CDs this afternoon.

This is one of my favorite French mint medals. The original picture was taken a couple of years ago then edited in PhotoScape today.
Those imperfections are dust not damage to the medal. I've since learned to blow off dust before taking pictures.

Thanks. I think it was the second medal i bought from the mint.

This one is Orpheus a Greek mythological figure known for his ability to charm with music. Nice little blank space on the back for engraving.
The mint used to offer free engraving on many of their medals.
I'll have to take fresh pictures of all of them.

This one is the reverse of the NYC medal
It's representation of roads and urban structures.

hiho off to work we go

    Midas1, incredible medals.

Chris, I always thought of you as a Morgan guy. Nothing wrong with that. But 700 medals. Well rounded springs to mind.

    Here's another Schutzenfest medal, a 1906 Nyon.....

Here's a couple of medals from my numismatic related collection. These two honor a couple of past luminaries in the coin world and are interesting to me for that reason. The Bauer medal is unusual because of the portrait. I'm not an ancient collector, but I think this may be a copy of an old coin...it looks familiar. Does anyone know?

Thanks hiho, I'm not so much a fan of Swiss shooting medals but yours is spectacular. I didn't notice the flying saucer hat until you pointed it out.

Newp SC Dollar. This is my first one and although it is probably pretty common (based on the winning bid on Teletrade of 50 bucks 63 total with BP and ship)I really liked its size, color, subject matter and artwork. Hopefully it is the start of a nice little SC dollar collection. So how did I do? Thanks, Matt
