A significant doubled die reverse (DDR) has been discovered on a 2011 Lincoln Shield cent and is illustrated on the Die Variety News (DVN) "News & Announcements" web page. If you get a chance stop by. As always... Good Hunting!!! Regards, Billy
Thanks for posting the link. However, talk about a subtle error...even with the great pics and arrows provided, I was hard pressed to distinguish the errors/indicators. There's no way I wouldn't be able to spot one of those in the wild. But I guess most didn't think the 1970 S large/small date varieties would be a collectible "hit" due to its subtlety...so you never know. -LTB
Is it a "significant" DDR if you have to enlarge a photo 300% its normal size? This is a "significant" Double Die...
I agree - I went there expecting to see a DD that would be visible to the naked eye...I don't know how many cents I've seen with errors at least that "significant."
It is significant considering the improved hubbing processes they use today, and the tighter quality control. Technically this should not even be possible since they use single squeeze hubs now.
I recently learned this, but one of the reasons why the Philadelphia mint has more errors coins, is because the Philadelphia mint is the one who makes the dies to mint the coins for both of the mints, but the Philadelphia mint does not put mint marks on their modern coins, so the Philadelphia sends them to the Denver and he Denver mint puts the d on so they inspect their die while putting mint-marks on them and fix more problems then Philadelphia! -Taylor :smile
And of course I live in an area where Denver minted coins are dominant. Only a few of the older Philadelphia coins can be found out here.
you can barely tell that is an error. I am not even sure if it is even worth calling it an error (unlike the 55,72,95 DDO). With so many errors now-a-days, is it even worth looking for them?
DieVariety, I think you are taking this a little too personal. I can imagine that this is what you enjoy doing and appreciate the effort you put into this (truly I do). Just because someone like myself have a difference of opinion doesnt mean that others will a. have the same and b. find it significant..Keep posting away, cause I rather have the info available then not at all! Thanks!
Just like Shoe said, I meant no offence, I am just not a big error coin guy. But I assure you there are plenty here that are. Keep up the good work.
Haven't posted here in a while, and this thread is a good damn clue as to why. Someone who has spent untold hours of his life furthering our knowledge of numismatics and Lincoln Cent varieties takes even more of his time to share a new discovery and he's met here with jeers and quite frankly, just obvious ignorance. It's a variety boys; not an error. At least learn the basics will you?
Yes you are right, a double die is a variety and not an error, however it is commonly referred to as one. I apologized for any offense I gave to the OP, but I feel that what you did was hardly appropriate. You effectively insulted several people in one post.
