Here's what mine look like. I think that mine was caused by deteriorated dies. I may be wrong, I have 4 unc rolls that are almost all just like this one

    Hi wooleytree,

The rim on this particular 1960 is razor sharp, proof like, so I expect that this particular one was double struck with a regular die. And I am guessing it shifted a bit and hence the reason for all of the doubling on the obverse and reverse.

I do not think a deteriorated die would create an extra step at the base of the building. Anyway, in my case, I am thinking I have to lean toward being double struck. My camera's macro function SUCKS :( or I'd get a picture uploaded.

Helio, you may be right. Here's a close up of the reverse of mine and I see what appears to be a doubling on the bottom step. 19603.jpg You may have to zoom in a little. Like I said I don't know what caused it. I'm open for suggestions.

That is precisely it. See the underlying outline of the building also off to the sides of the step? The dome is doubled too yeah? What about the rim of your specimen? Is it razor sharp (straight, not rounded)?

can you guys tell me what you think about my Lincoln dollar "U" reverse and let me know what kind of doubling it might be.
