So, I know that fractional (1/2, 1/4, and 1/10oz) Platinum Eagles were minted from 1997-2008...and since then they have only minted the full 1 ounce coins. Why did they stop minting the fractional coins?
The premium for fractional coins was horrible. Often 35% or more over melt. Hence, not suitable for it's intended purpose which was as a store of value. That's what caused poor sales then and now with new issues valued at significant premiums over face.
