Can they be found? I'd like very much to own one or ten.

I've seen one...about 3 or 4 years ago it was an original roll of 45-P I do believe it was around $425-450, a bit steep for my tastes then. So yes, if there is one out there, probably more, but who knows...if you are really interested you should contact someone that can hunt one down for you or try one of the larger auction houses.

They are around. I still have a couple I bought 20 years ago in an auction, (44d and 45s). Every year this stuff gets a little scarcer due to slabbing and people trying to get rich getting an ultrahigh grade, but there are "old timers" like me. I was at an old dealers auction 20 years ago with rolls going back to the teens, though I do not think the paper rolls were original. I still kick myself for not buying any of the SL quarter rolls, but they were going high, (to me at least, I was still a poor college student).

Do the rolls look different then than they do now? Are they still the little cylinders? :smile

Mine are in manila rolls labelled "dimes $5". A lot has been said about the date these traditional coin wrappers became available, I am not vouching for the rolls authenticity from the 40's, just that they are rolls of BU coins that have been in the rolls for a while probably due to the toning on them, (edges toned and outside surfaces at ends of rolls toned. That is about the best you can do as to "authenticity".

That's interesting! Are you going to keep the Mercs' in there forever?

I have for now, but do have an anti-humidity agent in the bag, and a few silver rounds to "take the hit" of toning. I should remove them, but TBH have not thought of these rolls for 10 years at least until I saw this post. Many of us have lots of stuff like this squirreled away for a later day. Its the nature of coin hoarding. I have a few rolls of washington quarters from the same auction as well.
