TRIVIA: Error Coins You May Not Know Exist - Episode 28

    5 Mexican Error Coins ​
    Three of these Mexican coins are from the 18th Century (1700s). Two were minted in the 19th Century (1800s) Four are spelling errors. One is a Double Error.

    Some nice errors indeed. Well, with GRTIA one could possibly get away with the argument that it is an abbreviation. ;) But EFLIX, hmm ... Nowadays I would assume that everybody who works at a mint either as an engraver or in QC can read and write. But I guess that in the 18th century that was not necessarily the case.

    The thing about the old errors is that the coiner struck coins spelled correctly, and likely replaced the die after discovering the error. What amazes me is why didn't he remelt all the coins he applied the error die to...
