Never know what you'll find in an inheritance. Last years of both coins. This period in Europe is separated into its own little box; I’ll get back to it one day. https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces3416.html https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces707.html
I agree. This sort of Art Deco period in French coinage is very appealing. And they're frequently found in bulk lots. As a matter of fact, I've got two or three pounds of all French stuff from that period, waiting for me to go through some day. There's a lot of Vichy State aluminum in there, too.
Post-1917 French coinage always leaves me a bit sad, given the disappearance of silver from the franc and 2 franc coins. Beautiful designs, to be sure, but still!
That design by Morlon is one of my all-time favorite coin designs. Here it is on a coin from Uruguay:
Aside from the 7-8 different French varieties, and the Uruguay, the only one I'm aware of is a very expensive essay from Morocco. I do not know if there is a regular issue of this essay. https://www.ebay.com/itm/2842315017...dt1/iF5mPTEgNGLGeoq5XCotk=|tkp:Bk9SR8zSwqykYQ
To bad it was slabbed with finger prints. Sold for $1500 about three years ago. https://coins.ha.com/itm/morocco/wo...-31066.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515
Note to self: include some Morlon French pieces in a giveaway soon. I've got a multi-pound lot of French stuff, chock full o' stuff like that.
