Question...if NO BANKS take rolled coin they must have coin counting machines so customers can trade in coins, correct? Why not use those? How do you get rid of your halves? Banks on the east side take rolled coins, unless they have a coin counting machine. Then typically they do not take rolled coins and you dump in the machine. I only get to dump into a machine once a week. And with $500 in cash to rotate, I have to reroll coins if I want to search more than $500 in a week. It's a pain to reroll but it's better than being idle after getting two skunk boxes of dimes or something and waiting for the weekend.

Man - my girl at my main pick-up bank for halves says she didn't order them for this week. There's 3 less boxes available for me to search. Hopefully, the other two banks pull through. Bummer! :(

Did a box of halves at lunch...skunk streak now at 2. These String & Sons boxes haven't been too good for me. I'll keep grinding away though...I'm in it for the long haul.

About $150 in various rolled coins on Wednesday... nothing. More and more tellers I talk to are getting wise to silver and mention their finds etc.

colligoergosum I collect, therefore I am

Man oh man did I make a great find today. I am visiting family in a small town in the Pacific northwest and yesterday I stopped at all the banks downtown and got about 40 rolls of CWR halves. After going through most of them I figured it was another skunk day and then.... one roll had FIVE walkers in it, plus a '69 Kennedy. In all my searching I have only ever found one walker, so to find 5 in one roll was amazing :D

Has anyone ever ordered halves form Wells Fargo and/or Wachovia. They said they can get me boxes for next week, but they charge a fee. I'm trying to see if it's worth the gamble?

If you did order from them...how did you do?

So they do charge a fee now Ace? The last time i got a box from them was in 2010, and it was a skunk. However, once other branch that I didn't get the box from had a box in the branch opened that I got a few rolls from and it had some silver I think. I think they actually ordered it because I had been going in asking for halves but that is just my speculation...

Slamster17 - Yes they want $7.50 a box. I may roll the dice on two boxes since my normal bank screwed up and didn't order my 3 for next week. I figure 1 90%er and it's close to a wash. Then at least I know. Sometimes you have to spend to learn.

I will keep everyone posted. They won't have them until Thursday.

WOW $7.50 a box??? Glad I've been pussy-footing around ordering a box from them....thats almost one more roll of halves....any idea if those fees are at all of the WF nationwide? The last time I got change their before they switched they mentioned that they would start charging...Looks like I'm opening an account at PNC...

Interesting day with a couple of firsts. I went to 12 banks today. 8 had halves ranging from $1 tp $110. 6 of the 8 banks had silver in them so I found Roosies, 40%'ers, and 90%'ers.

    The two firsts from today:
    1. I found multiple silver dimes in the same roll with multiple 2011 dimes. Kind of odd as they have obviously not been sitting in box for decades, yet silver....
    2. I had a teller actually hide silver from me for the first time ever.

    Overall a solid day!

Merc - Flyers fan here, but I'm actually o.k. with the trades.

As far as WF goes...I'm going to do it as a one time gamble. **** it's like a hand of black jack. If I hit one 90%er I'm ahead. Since this is a direct result of my bank dropping the ball this won't be an on-going thing.

Looks like it could be heading that route:

I just think that it is absurd to charge $7.50 per box...I understand that they have to pay to have the change delivered, but still..especially if they are going to be doing that on pennies as well, as in that link you posted I believe it said $.15 per roll all around or something. If it comes down to that I will definitely consider taking my business elsewhere. I haven't set foot in a WF in a while however...I think the tellers I liked at the branch nearest me moved on...

Well, HOTN to put it simply none of the banks around here have a coin counter. Closest thing I have to a coincounter is CoinStar.

Also, I have no bank accounts and probably cannot get one. When this economy took a dive, I was laid off from my job after being hired and promised work at 40+ hours a week and above minimum wage. My parents were not an option, my father was controlled by my then step-mother who was a devilish woman that wanted me gone so she could raise the children that she gave birth to. So, naturealy I did what I could to survive. I scoured around town looking for work, living off of my credit card and what little I had in my bank account. To top it all off, my GF (now wife) was kicked out of her house because she was dating me and her parents didn't approve...so she moved in, and suddenly I had two mouths to feed on a limited income until she found work which she did. Eventualy I found work, but not after my CC was maxxed beyond the limit, the bank account's overdraft fund had been depleted, and I had nothing but dust where my previous coin collection lay.

Now, I work 9-5 M-F @ $9.5/hr, living paycheck to paycheck and barely making enough to survive and have a little extra to keep myself sane with a guilty pleasure here and there. Yes, I make payments on my debt, but not enough to erase what damage has been done...yet.

So, here I am doing what I can, with what I have...finding the occaisonal coin here and there and telling you all about it because it makes me happy =D

    I know...t'was a rant...sorry.

Don't get me wrong. I agree it's absurd. It's the cost of doing business. It really irks me with Wells Fargo as I've had an account going back to Meridian in Philly before it became...Core States...First Union...Wachovia...then Wells Fargo. This is about 19 years. I had a business account, and have had way too much $$$ in there over the years. Believe me when I go to pick it up, I will remind them of this and ask them to wave the fee, and if not I may move my primary checking to a small local bank.

On the other hand...it'll be a $7.50 learning experience even if I do pay. I'll let the board know how it pans out.

Kand - hang in there brother. Think positive, dream big, and keep God as a focus and it'll work itself out. I applaud you for doing something positive and innovative to try and get your debt knocked out. Credit Cards are an evil thing. You need them to build credit, but they can destroy your credit if you use them too much. Personally, I hate them and at a point in my life where I'd rather not use them unless I have too and have the cash to pay it off each month.

Hang in there...your day will come!

    :)

Thanks Ace, I do the best I can and just try to be an upstanding citizen. Thanks for the support. At least I have this awesome hobby to keep myself sane!

Not a bad day for searching. Got 6 40%ers in a box, I was happy with that. Also, sold 3 rolls of 40%ers for $90/roll, which I was happy to get.
And.... did a box of cents. 9 wheat cents and.... wait for it.... an 1893 Indian Head Cent!
It's a lousy cell phone pic, but I figured I'd show it off. First IHC found in a box. Very excited.
