My new Sasanian coin

Discussion in 'Ancient Coins' started by Kaveh Alaf Pour, Dec 11, 2022.

  1. Hi friends, I would like to share pictures of my beautiful Sasanian coin.

This is a silver drachm of Ardashir I the great. He defeated the last Parthian king Artabanus IV in 224 AD and reunited the region we known as IRAN, technically he mentioned the concept of a united land (to be known as a country) by calling himself the king of ERÃN (Iranians) and ANERÃN (non-Iranians) which proves that the concept of a nation and a motherland was existed way further than we thought (Perhaps further than Ardashir).

This coin is coming from a very well known collection and by far is one of the most beautiful and highest quality coin of I have ever seen of Ardashir I.

Do you have any Sasanian coin?

I do not have any, but that seems particularly well struck and well centered. Very nice!

Ooh, very nice indeed. And just a hint of cabinet toning.

Thank you. I know relatively little about Sasanian coins, but I liked this one.

This is my first time hearing about Queen Boran/Buran. I would never have guessed those portraits were female!

  10. Oh yeah, she is the daughter of the king you have his coin (Khusrau II). here is another coin of her from a different mint which shows better detail of her.

She looks more female there. That’s a lovely coin.

I should learn more about Persian history.

One of my favorite coins is also Persian, but much, much later, from the Qajar dynasty.

    (Talking about the slab):

It looks great! So is that a new thing, then? I wondered. Hope so. I love that it's free of those ghastly white prongs, which have been my #1 gripe with NGC.

(PS, after web search): Hmm. I guess it's an Airview holder. I like it.
