Hi all, BRandM and I went to the Baltimore show yesterday. once again we had a great time! The only problem? I have a bad case of "coinback" now. Those who attend big shows like this will understand, LOL. ( it was worth it) Definition of "Coinback"-pain located in the lower back. Mainly caused by spending hours and hours looking a coin dealer tables. Here is what I picked up, Mark in NJ
Actually, the 1 Eyrir I got from Ebay, It came in the mail yesterday so I just put it in there anyway
Thanks Jays-Dad!, Glad you like them. Like I had said that one came from Ebay, if you want a link to it let me know he may have others if your interested. Do you have any photos of your Icelandic coins!!!? If you do PLEASE post them, I would love to see them. There are 2 other serious Iceland collectors here on CT. Siggi and Iceman57. Those 2 are the MASTERS of Icelandic coins. If you ever have questions about them just ask. Thanks Again for looking!
Nice pickups Mark. Looks like you have another kindred spirit in jays-dad. You've got to be careful jays-dad, Mark, Siggi, and Iceman will have you going to Iceland on vacation. Believe me, you won't hear them coming. I found myself on Priceline the other day trying to pick up an airline ticket to there. Fortunately my wife showed up and slapped me upside the head before I could pay for it. I don't know what happened...I don't even collect "Icees". Bruce
So Far no one has meantioned the 1938 2 Aurar that appears to have some brokage going on with the letter A in Island. Well if anyone has any ideas of asking Mark for this coin,,, then your out of luck ,,,,I already as Mark if he would part with it. I think Siggi had found a error coin last year from the Kingdom Era and this would be the second one I have come across ,,,,,usually you just see the copper flan error's,,,,,Well Mark you have proven to me that these coin shows sometime are worth going to ,,,,,To find nice Icelandic coins. Thanks for sharing these with us.
my favourite is the 500 kronor, it is quite stunning. i paid 16 euros for mine which is a bargain........
Thanks for the comments moneyer,it is one of my favorites as well. So far I have 4 of these, and I'm looking for more. It's one of those coins I just can't get enough of. The detail is amazing. I have another CT member looking for a complete original set with the box and COA's for me. Hopefully he will come across one.
Yes Iceman, that coin is yours my friend. Please concider it a gift for all your patience and guidence you have given to me over the past couple of months. Without you and Siggi my Iceland collection would not exist. Thanks Guys, I can say that enough!
I would also like to point out the different variaions of the 8's on these coins. Notice that one has the top of the 8 filled and the other has both top and bottom filled. No one is sure how many different variations exsit. There is also one with a repunched and filled 8 which I have in my collection. The 10 Aurar is a 9 over 6 varity. This is one of the reasons I really like collecting these coins. There are still MANY dicoveries to make and someone like me can actually find them! Also, they are affordable in most cases. Thanks for the comments everybody!
I was at Baltimore show yesterday myself. Huge, but not too crowded. Easy to sit and look thru boxes of world coins. Also appropriate to this topic, here's my Iceland coin:
I assume it's common for the 8 of the 1938 to be filled in on the e2 Aurar pieces ? Also , did you notice that your 10 Aurar piece is the 1939 struck on 1936 example ? Nice coins Merlin .
Yes I did weryon, thanks for pointing that out. I find Icelandic coins are just so much fun to collect because there are so many different varitations to find.
Thank you Mark ,,,,Thats very nice of you to part with this coin,,,,You are a better man them me. I don't know if I could part with such a nice coin. I owe you one.
