The day I can afford to get 1k in halves is the day **** freezes over, pigs fly, and Pete Rose actually gets inducted into the Hall of Fame like he deserves... I am a small-time searcher. I have to be, due to my financial needs. However, I still find some coins here and there =D I try to take candies and what not into my fave bank, and I like to think they appreciate it and keep an eye out for me.

I was a small time searcher, but I just figured I'd take money out of savings. I mean, you aren't really spending it (unless you find something, and even then, it's just face value). If worst comes to worst, I stop searching and use the money for whatever I need it for, instead of pulling from savings for the emergency fund. I mean, sure, it's not earning that 2 cents a month interest, but if you find just one silver dime a month, at today's spot, it's a much better return than the savings account would give you.

Kanderous: I know what you mean. I've had 3 different tellers lately check dates on me. Once, as the teller was giving me halves, the teller in the next window stopped her and then opened the roll and checked the dates. Unbelievable!!!

Yesterday, I stopped at a bank and asked for halves. She said she had one. I said I'd take it, I always do, and asked if anyone else might have some. She looked put out, but then said she'd ask and went to the other tellers. No one had any, so she came back and pulled out 2 quarters to go with the one half. I hand her a paper washington and hesitates. After a couple of moments, she puts the two quarters back in her drawer and pulls out a 1964 AU-58 (my guess) half and says, "This one's silver." Interesting, huh.

I also finished my bag of dimes....that's $1000 worth, or four boxes, or 10,000 coins. I found 5 silver Roosies. These have been remarkably consistent for me. My last 5 bags of dimes have produced, 5, 4, 4, 5, 5 silvers. I found in this bag the following:

    49-D
    53-D
    56-D (2)
    57-D

Was not searching rolls but I did get a purse for my mom at a second hand store and was delighted to find a 1966 silver dollar and a 1966 and 1943 silver halves (canadian) but not bad for a 1.99 purse with over 40.00 in silver

The coins were actually still in the purse? That is one of the craziest ways to ever find silver!

Bob in the last two years that you've had most of your success searching halves, about how many boxes per week would you say you go thru? Just curious.

I'm doing about 4/week right now. I think that's about all that I can handle right now. It's not so much the searching but constantly dumping gets old after awhile. So yeah like most of you here I do have a good chain of dump banks I"m rotating on a consistent basis.

Btw, 1/2 Dollar Box #4 this week coughed up 1 '65 40% Ender. One more box coming tomorrow to round out the week.

Well today I found 2 Ikes. A 1972 that looks like it was purposely beat to ****...and the second is a 1971-D. Going to check the 72 to see if it is a T2, but with it being so beat up, it may not REALLY be a type 2...we shall see.

Oh, that reminds me, some bank had $84 in Ikes, took them all. Most are MS! Nicest mini-hoard of Ikes I've ever stumbled upon. None of the kings, though.

Stopped to cash a check and dump some coins. The teller says that she has something for me. I'm wondering if it's silver or what. What she had was a proof ike and a proof half, both clad, and some unc. halves and quarters. She had kept some for herself. I didn't ask if any of that was silver. I thought that was cool. Maybe next time will be silver. It's nice to known she's keeping an eye out.
