Wow, I have never encountered such an inhospitable bank employee! Merc - I would recommend BofA if you don't already have an account there, they have spectacular service when it comes to boxes. A manager at one of the main BofA branches near me said that they don't even mind if I dump my boxes back there when I'm done (which I don't do, but thought it was nice that they offered).

That is great that the teller is nice enough to hold onto a silver half for you. Cool man

did $40 in dimes quick on my lunch, nothing good.

Bob, I know, but they should have mentioned something when I first started dumping change... I don't have a problem with them wanting to recoup costs, but lying to me is uncalled for. Plus, they get to keep 1% or so of my dimes, so it's not like I don't pay any fee.

BofA is pretty bad around here, at least for me. I had an account with them, and they got upset that I would come in 2x a week and ask for $500 in dimes. Plus, there's only like, three branches within 10 miles or so, as opposed to the other banks, which there are a ton of. Also tough with ordering, asked them to order me halves, and they refused unless I had enough in my account to cover the cost of them. So I could order one box at a time.

I've never had a problem there before, which is why I was so surprised. I guess we'll see next week what the deal is...

So I tried to pick up a box of dimes today, but TD let me down. Said they had one on the phone and couldn't give me any when I got there, but I got a box of pennies. The guy in front of me had just dumped a bunch of change including halves, Ikes, and SBAs, so I picked up $35 in Ikes, and SBAs. Not bad.

Went to PNC on the way home and picked up $133 in halves, nothing. PNC had sealed rolls of 2011 Grant $1s so I picked up two rolls...anyone know what to do with these? Think it is worth putting them up on ebay? They said they had a couple hundred worth or so, so I may go back and get some more.

I really need to open an account with PNC this one branch has been really good to me...

Is it mint wrapped? If it is, awesome, sell it. But it's probably not. I sold a roll of NF String wrapped BU Grant dollars on ebay for $26.01 with $4.99 shipping. After shipping, I just about broke even. So, put a higher starting price if you do.
I think part of the problem with these is you can't tell what the mintmark is until you open the roll, since it's on the edges. Therefore it's kind of a crapshoot when people buy em.

I hate 5 pence... useless, pretty much valueless, and cost you twenty cents each.

10 cents each. But agree with the idea.

Yea, not mint wrapped, just the NF string wrapped stamped with U S Grant on them, both H/T. Looks like they are going on ebay between $25-30+shipping...may try it...I had luck selling rolls of dimes and pennies when they came out last year...

    Box 1: 2 40%
    Box 2: SKUNK

I'm starting to get jealous with all the big finds lately...

Most of the rolls I've found them in only have 48 dimes, not 49.

    Value thoughts

Posted separately but want thoughts from my posse as well. With spot at $35.50,and some shops charging spot plus $7.95 on ASE's, what would you consider a can't pass up bargain price for ASE's?

This must be the week for bad bank relations!! Today I popped by Wells Fargo and asked for halves as normal...the lady handing them to me (a cute little strawberry blonde) hands me the halves ($2.00 worth) and then says "Oh wait!!" and snatches them back and looks at ALL the dates! There were no silver coins there, but I was just astonished at what had just happened. I point blank asked her "So, you're just going to check the coins right in front of me?" so says "Oh no...just that if there is one from 1954 or before they are worth more...sometimes...not worth THAT much more though."

Well, you little beeotch lets get a couple things straight:

    1) I know what you are doing/just did is against policy

    2) At least try and cut the coins off from customers behind their backs, not right in front of them.

    3) PLEASE, get your damned facts straight! It is 1964 NOT 1954, and in the case of half dollars, the magic date is 1970.

Now, after my ranting I can admit that I would probably check coins too if I were a teller, but I would at the very least not do it in front of a customer AND I would try to do it "legaly". By that I mean I would sell the coins to teller B, then buy them with my own money. Also, I would be doing it for more than just the silver reason, I would do it for the numismatic reasons. I bet if I asked the teller from today what a Walking Liberty, or a Barber was she would stare at me cross-eyed and just try to look pretty.

Anyways, my only find today was a 1973 penny. Copper. Yay.

Looks like you found a dump bank, Kan. Imagine her looking at each date of, oh, $1k in halves...

Hey quick question. Is it bad to tell a bank tell thatbyou are looking for silver? I got my first few rolls of halves today and when asked why i wanted them i just said "cuz i think they are cool"

no... some folks just pick a personable individual and make them their favorite. tell them what you are looking for and entice them with a "finder's fee" and you may be suprised at the results ;) also, they may forewarn you if it's someone's dump bank.

Not the best days looking recently. So Tuesday went to TD and saw 4 1964 Kennedy Halves in a tellers tray. She would not sell them to me because someone had come in the day before and was picking them up later that day. If that person did not come in then she would sell them to me the next morning. Went in Wednesday and the person (assuming the teller) had bought the halves. Went to dump $250 in dimes and after dumping all 2500 coins the machine only registered 970 coins (give or take a few). The machine missed counting over 1500 coins and now I have to wait until sometime next week to hopefully get back the $150 that was not counted.
