Headed up to the girlfriend's parents' house on Thursday Morning. Stopping at probably 20 or so banks I've never been to on the way up there... hopefully it pays off.

    JJDEMARAY, I envy thee!

I found a whopping $5.50 face in halves today. Skunked.

That is a crazy number of 90% halves. All Kennedy's? That is such a find at face value. Congrats!

Box of dimes from TD, skunk 5th in a row. Any other banks in the Philly area that are ok on dimes?

    Final Tally $226.50 CWR Halves

Here are the numbers for the halves I picked up on Monday ($226.50)

    54 - 40%
    11 - 90% all 1964 Kennedy

These were much better on the 90% compared to the first $120 I picked up last week from this bank. (just one out of that batch)

$32.50 face for ~$423 in silver...Incredible. This had to be some old blue blood's collection that I was lucky enough to pick up. The teller kept on thanking me for buying them all saying" we would have never gotten rid of these". I was all too happy to help her out. I even walked away with a nice reuseable shopping bag to carry them all in.

Each time I find another silver coin, I think to myself I need a nice fireproof safe.

Screw buying a safe, just get a SDB at the bank. Nice finds, dude.

Was accosted by a manager at one of my dump branches this morning. She was saying that I need to have a business account because of how much I dump there... at the bank that receives maybe 30% of my volume. Accused (yes, accused) me of having other branches order change for me to go through. As she was ranting on, I stepped in to correct her. I don't ask them to order change, besides halves, which cannot be done at TD any longer. I only take what they have on hand and can spare... if they have no dimes, that's fine, I'll move on and get them somewhere else. Pointed out that most of my change comes from Wells Fargo, not TD, which is kind of a lie. It's more half and half. And so on... I also said that it's TD Bank policy for them to take any change I bring in as long as I run it through the Penny Arcade. She was fuming, I could tell.

I proceeded to dump the rest of the bag in while she was trying to tell me something (It makes a lot of noise, kinda rude, but whatever) and just told her, straight up, my volume will drop a ton once I start my new job Monday, but I'll make special trips out to cash in change there because the tellers are nice, treat me with respect, and know how to do their jobs properly, unalike some of the other branches nearby. Also because I can buy bags of change from the other bank in the shopping center. I said that my dumping of change there should be considered a compliment, given the great service I get. I proceeded to tell her the locations of the other branches I dump change at, and said they have never mentioned anything to me in regards to the volume I dump and having a business account, and if they do, I'll be in contact with her district manager. I also implied that I'd be moving most of my business elsewhere because of her behavior towards me (which is a lie, I'm moving it to PNC because I'm sick of TD's policies becoming less customer-centric) today. That made her rather apologetic, but the harm was done, at least in my mind. Dunno if TD will ever be able to repair that fissure that she created in my relationship with that bank unless they start ordering halves again.

I suppose I shouldn't be surprised, I do dump thousands of dollars every week, and this is the first time a manager has said something to me. It doesn't help that one of the vault managers at a bank I used to pick up at got promoted and moved to this branch as their assistant manager, I'm sure he's the one that "ratted" me out, so to speak.

Thanks for the advise I would rather be safe than sorry and keep things as secure as possible. By far my best find and I had a blast. If I ever top that I'll be amazed.

It sounds as though you have good relationships with the people at your dump banks and they really don't really mind you dumping your change and now this, they still get paid the same amount either way. I feel that if they offer a service it really should not matter how much you take advantage of it. It all evens out in the end, some people dump change while others would never use the machine. I understand they might be upset, but to treat customers like that is un called for and not professional.

While we're discussing dump bank issues, I went to a different branch for my dump yesterday (the one where I saw the guy searching through some of my dumps, heh heh), and they didn't even bat an eyelash at me dumping $1250; no demands for $5 per bag, nothing. In fact, the teller was chatting me up and saying how they had "another guy" who searches coins also.

I think my new strategy will be to use a different branch for dumps each week; it will take me 2 months to rotate through just the BoA branches close to me, so no one bank will see me very often - also have Chase banks that I could use. Thinking of opening a savings account (free with $50 balance) at a tiny local bank as a new source for boxes of H's. Still no car, so it's a total drag not being able to search for loose; I'm going to talk to the manager of our local BoA branch (old family friend of The Wife) to see how large an order of H's, D's and P's I can get once a week without a charge or causing them any inconvenience.

    Keep you all posted...

Wow, Merc, really? She basically complained about you using a service that her business provides? Unreal.

Seriously, I'm really starting to hate banks. I guess I didn't realize how bad things were since I've been using a credit union for the last 20 years. Since I started coin collecting I've been going to banks more often. They want your money and don't want to provide any services for it. It's crazy.

I have been using TD since it was Commerce, since I was 8 years old. 16 years and they're gonna give me crap? Screw them. I have an account at PNC already, but it's empty... wonder if they'll order me halves anyway? Won't be any money in it until I start receiving paychecks for my new job.

Also, the bolded line there is pretty much dead on. I mean, yeah, I take advantage of their policies to make it easy for me, an individual, to partake in a hobby, but heck, I'm certainly not the only one who does it. She also accused me of profiting, and once I stated it's a hobby and I don't make money doing this, she changed gears and focused on the volume I dump.

Know what else is crazy? When I told her that I have access to a business account, she said that wasn't good enough, I needed to open one. She was just trying to pump her numbers up and milk me for some fees. The more I think about it, the more upset I get... I think I'm gonna go in there later this summer with a couple paychecks worth of cents and nickels to deposit and see how she feels about that.

That is probably the story, she has pressure to get additional business accounts and figured you were a good target. I would consider calling corporate, especially if your other option is to just give up.

If they give me ish again, I certainly will call corporate. I'll let it slide this time, though.

Just went to my fav. teller to get my wednesday box of dimes, and she was holding onto a half for me (as she does when the branch gets them in).

You know that they have to pay to ship the coins, have them counted, etc. I can see why she is concerned, though her approach didn't sound like it was very good.

Some REALLY nice finds lately. Congrats!!!

    Me?:
I got $100 of CWR at two different banks today......someone else's dumps. Skunkamoni and Skunkarino
