I picked this coin up this past weekend at a small local coin show. The dealer was asking $100 for it. Not the best struck coin in the world... the dies look used up.. but I still think it'll go low end mint state. Assuming it grades. How'd I do?
Like you say Matt not the best strike, but the color is beautiful. You have the coin in hand to grade, but from what I can see it's no worse than a 58. Anyway, it's a great looking coin. I would have paid $100 for it. Bruce
Matt ff-topic: My uncle Teo Macero was a good friend Q David Bowers. I recall my uncle telling me tip from QDB @ Thanksgiving Xmas Dinners 1950's there were a few 1916 Buffalo Nickle that had Silver in the mix.this maybe one?And the reason why had something to do with the Standing Liberty Quarter. *I seen this photo & just recalled the 55+year old statement , Hex that a lot of brain cells ago. **It may cost more to have Ngc check the metal content than the coin is worth.55+Yrs I have never heard of one being grade or any other new in reading or anything? :kewl:
From my limited experience with the TPG's, rots-o-ruck getting it graded. Just for a collection, that is a great looking coin. I think that grade might just surprise you - if it were to grade. I am not sure just what you mean by "low end mint state", but a 63 looks likely to me and a shot at 64
I call low end mint state anything 63 and under. The lack of detail in the center of the reverse to me is the determining factor. I see it as poor strike... but NGC might see it as light wear...
It wouldn't surprise me these days. Maybe I'll have to send this one in an order all alone... and not with a bunch of AT'ed silver eagles or something. HA!
i like it! especially the reverse with the green and pink. i agree i have no idea what PCGS would do with it, so i have stopped trying to guess how they would slab it.
I thought it was wear as well. I will admit however I have never liked US grading worn dies as MS. Its a very pretty coin. Please be sure to follow up with the grade received.
Here is another I picked up. Needless to say that these coins are going to the grading company in separate orders.
Geez gbroke, I don't want you to take the whole hit for the team. I'll take one of them off your hands Matt. Bruce
Love the second coin too! Who are you going to send these to? I'm guessing PCGS because NGS has been insane lately.
