Just curious, but are you seeing a lot of coins in old rattlers where there is a substantial price difference with the next grade? All of the old rattlers I've seen and owned contain coins where there's not enough difference in price to justify resubmitting for a possible higher grade.

I don't have any financial motivation to resubmit any of my old rattlers, since in all cases the potential price increase from an upgrade wouldn't justify the cost of a resubmission. But it is kind of annoying to see the coins turn on their side in their holders.

As for "Aftershock", that comes from the fact that where I live has been averaging at least one earthquake a day since the March 11 disasters.

No not a whole lot but I do see OGH written next to a coins grade like it's a badge of honor to be in an old green holder . They word it like it's got a CAC sticker or something .

Picked this one up at a local show today. Nothing spectacular, just liked the blackening of the lettering around the rim. Got a soft spot for Columbian Halfs.......:)

Thing about this one Rusty (and it doesn't come accross in the pic) is the fields are highly reflective (mirror like)....almost proof like. Now, I do know that they made a few '93 proofs but I don't think for a second that I got a proof here. Nice to dream though.....and only $20. :)

Like squared denticles , sharp details lettering and devices are squared not rounded where the meet the fields, usually well centered strike , sorry though Ken I don't think yours have them , but it is an above average strike , with prooflike fields and Cameo effect . But you could see them in hand better then me . I couldn't find a picture of a Columbian proof . Wish someone could post one .

This is a series that is rich in history. Each coin in this series has it's own story to tell around the events of it's manufacture:

Greenie, as Lee said, each of the Classic Commems have many stories surrounding them, not only about their manufacture, but the historic significance as well.

For example, the first settlement established in Maryland in 1631 was on the eastern shore of the Chesapeake Bay on Kent Island and was known as Kent Fort. However, George Calvert, the 1st Lord Baltimore didn't petition the King of England for the Maryland grant until 1634, and it wasn't approved until 1635 after his death. I can only assume that the 1634 Maryland Tercentenary commem was dated based on the petitioin date for the grant. Cecil Calvert, who succeeded his father as the 2nd Lord Baltimore, inherited the grant. Neither George nor his son Cecil had ever set foot in the "New World", and Cecil remained in England, sending his younger brother Leonard to oversee the colony.

It's interesting to note that Maryland has two counties named after Cecil Calvert (Cecil County and Calvert County), one for his wife, Anne Arundell (Anne Arundel County) and one for his son Charles (Charles County), but there is no county named for his younger brother, Leonard, despite the fact that he was the only member of the family who left England to oversee the colony.

One of my favorite commems will always be the Oregon Trail. I had been looking for a nicely toned specimen for many years, but every time I located one, it always sold for a lot more money than I could afford. Blast white specimens are as common as fleas on a hound dog. Earlier this year, I happened to be browsing Mark Feld's listings when I came across a 1926-S NGC MS67 with nice toning. I must have thought about it for all of 10 seconds before committing to buy it.
