Hello everyone, As I am a college student, naturally I have little extra money, so I was thinking about a collection I could start that wouldn't be very expensive, so I thought that the state quarters would be nice to collect. Now I know that everyone and their grandmother has collected the state quarters, but would it make sense to collect a roll of each state/mint mark? I personally don't think they will every really be worth much, but what do I know, I'm new. Also either way, it sounds fun to do so I'm gonna do it anyways, but it would be nice to know if they are thought to be worth anything in 20 years or something. Any input would be appreciated, and have a lovely summer Will
I have a roll set of P&D's. I just put them away and hope, later that some will be worth more than a Qt. You then can tell, your other collectors, that you have a set. -O)
Be a heck o' a lot cheaper to collect an example of each mint mark and year (including a silver proof) than to be collectin' all them rolls. But that's just a suggestion. You go collect what ya want. That's what this hobby is all about.....
I need a 1999-P, PA 1999-P, NJ 1999-P, GA 1999-P, CT 2000-P, SC 2000-P, NH 2001-P, NY 2001-P, NC 2001-P, VT 2002-P, OH 2002-P, LA 2002-D, LA 2002-P, MS 2003-P, IL 2003-D, IL This is just a quarter of my missing ones! -Taylor 2003-D, IL
I agree. A complete P & D Roll Set is $1,000 face value. Then you gotta have a way of storing them at $7 - $10.00 a box and those boxes get real heavy. But if the man wants to collect a roll set, thats his choice and I'm open to getting him headed in the right direction.
Thanks for the input guys. Searcher64, heres to hoping after I have my set too, half the countries state quarters are accidentally sent to the moon 19lyds- I think I'd rather collect the coins myself out of the pocket change I get, its more exciting that way green18- I agree the hobby is great because it is what you make of it, which makes it the hobby of kings. Sooner or later I'll get a silver proof quarters and assemble that set, it seems like a nice one On a side note, I thought that theyd go back to the eagle design after the state quarters, but then they went to the territories and now the America the Beautiful, does anyone know if they will ever go back to the eagle reverse?
Lyds thats a nice looking collection, hopefully I'll get there eventually, and Taylor, keep looking! I'm sure you'll get what you need. Even I rarely see Illinois quarters, and thats where I am.
I have had a hard time collection the park set. I have not been able to get any from the banks as in the past. I have been able to acquire cents of 2011Ps, dimes of 2011P's , but no nickles or Qts. I had some of the 2010P cents and dimes rolls. No Qt park rolls of 2010, or 2010 nickles. All the banks in my area of Conyers, GA have changed suppliers and you have to look to Home Depot, Lows, Wally World and other stores only. Hard to find any star notes too.
As a poor college student as well, I have gotten some decent stuff searching half dollars and nickels. I've got about $170 face value of halves in AU or better (including some newer, not released for circulation coins with lower mintages) and silver. I use the silver I find to sell and spend that on other stuff I can't find in the rolls (you can get an AU walking liberty half for $20-25 even at a coin shop.) Nickel boxes will usually come with a couple silver war nickels, a buffalo or liberty nickel, and a handful of 30's, 40's and 50's coins - some in pretty good shape. I like these coins for the long range better than the state quarters, but that's just my two cents! Good luck!
stldanceartist- I've searched through some rolls of coins recently (I've been reading the roll searchers thread, and it's very interesting) and the nickels are cool, but I only have 2 war nickels, and it doesn't seem like its worth it to sell unless you acquire a full roll, do you find it worth it to sell them when you only have a few? Also I have about 20 pre 1960 nickels, are they worth anything?
In late 2001/early 2002 I found out that a group of folks at work were exchanging D mints coins (both circulated and uncurculated) with a couple of fellows back east so I decided to get in on the action. Finding a roll of "collection worthy" 1999 coins, regardless of state, was very tough. Even back in 2002. Good luck on your quest since I know from personal experience that it will be time consuming and tedious.
Hey bud, My Aunt worked in a bank and would give me a roll of quarters every time she saw me, I have Philly minted IL, OH, and LA. I have others but those were the ones on your list. If you get desperate we could work something out.
