I think they believe that by not allowing customers to order halves, they will be able to reduce the fees involved with customers cashing them in at TD Bank... Screw them, I'm trying my hardest to make sure that's not the case. In the next month or so, I'm gonna try to ramp up my half searching to $5k a week or so.

Ace, that beats any box of halves I've ever had in my year+ of roll searching. Doesn't beat some of my teller or CWR finds, but that's a great box. Nice catch.

Thanks Merc! I know they all won't be like this, but I'm going to savor it for now. On the other hand...I looked through 4 boxes of dimes to get 1 Rosie and 1 Merc...I'll take the halves any day!

I seriously wish everyone good luck. It's out there!

TD's bank policy changed mid February or March. They sent a memo to all branches saying that the banks can no longer order boxes of half dollars.

Only able to make one stop today... one clad half and one ike. On another note, the bank screwed up one of my coin deposits last week and is holding $150. They say there is a missing check. I gave them rolled half dollars... morons.

Ike finds. Saturday I found 2000 Ike's someone had just turned in. I did not have that much cash on me (duh lol) so I asked them to hold them. I went back today and they only held 500 for me but sent the rest away this morning ugh. ANyway, I get 500 and open rolls. 14 rolls (280) BU Bicentennial Ike's. These look outstanding with gorgeous fields. The other 11 rolls are mixed circulated Ikes. I also picked up $8 unrolled which contained 3 BU Proofs. A 1973S, 1976S Var 1, 1976S Var 2. I was pumped as these are my first proof Ike's I have ever found.

Yes, it had been a while since I saw your name next to a good find. Congrats. Good for you!!

And Erin, I still don't know why they didn't hold all of them for you. That seems strange to me. Congrats on the Proof finds....how cool!

Bob, storage of 2000 ikes is a lot of room in the vault and also, holding that amount in the vault is an increased risk to the bank... Vault managers are taught to minimize the amount of change in the vault to reduce overhead and potential loss.

Was supposed to have 2 boxes of halves coming today. 1st bank said will have coin after 4 pm, and 2nd bank the teller that ordered them is out on vacation and the box is in her personal drawer locked apparantly.

On another note a different teller at the 2nd bank told me she had a bunch of silver coins she was interested in selling that were her mother-in-laws. I gave her my card. She said she has dollars, halves, quarters, dimes, nickels.

I told her I'm more interested in the big coins, the dollars, & halves. How much would you guys offer her on some of this? Should I be fair and just go spot? She has some idea of the value, and I don't intend to rip her off. She said she has about 50 of the Morgan/Peace dollars. I know those sell for a premium, and I'd really like to get those. So if I buy for spot from her I should still make out okay. Otherwise I was thinking of offering her 80 or 90% spot on them. Most dealers probably still won't pay her that much would they?

Chester you'd probably still pay her more than a dealer would, regardless, may even be beneficial to give her a good deal because maybe she'll keep an eye out for you at the bank?

Went to FN, bought some bags off their machine...

$401.50 in halves, skunk... someones dump I guess.
$200 in nickels, 4 war nicks (Still no '43-D, gah) and a '34 buff, to go along with ~1.5 rolls of pre-'60 and 7 BU's. Also pulled 3 dimes and 13 cents, 4 of which were copper. Oh, and a single 1959 Black Beauty nickel that just barely misses FS.

lol, VACookey, sometimes it seems like that. I went through a box of cents last week and pulled 7 canadians and 14 wheaties, oldest of which was a 1926. That box was NF String, then I did a box of cents from Brinks, and pulled a total of 2 wheaties, my lowest total ever. I have never had a good box from brinks and I think I will stop getting them from now on. So today I decided to get another NF String box and there were 5 wheaties on the ends, so it looks to be a nice box. I'll post the results later. Also I asked PNC (where I get my penny boxes) if they would order halves for me, because I have about $1000 bucks that will be freed up soon, and they said they would be happy to, they are the friendliest bank I have found.
I guess I did find this nice 1968 S in the Brinks box. img377small.jpg
