Should I Have This 1909 S V.D.B. Graded Before I Sale To An Offer Of $8000.00

That certification number checks out. And PCGS calls it MS66+RD (which I think makes more sense than RD+).

The PCGS price guide lists a retail price of $22,000 (seven 66+RD's have been certified). A dealer will naturally offer less.

As it is a recent grading by PCGS my guess is it warrants the grade. But it anyone about to spend that kind of money will look closely at its condition.

I have no doubt that coin would sell on Heritage for well over $15k. And yes, I believe it is genuine.

Also, your image matches the one on PCGS's site. PCGS does not strive to get beautiful photos for its cert look-ups, just enough to make diagnostics possible.

The marks on the coin in front of Lincoln's face, and behind his head, match correctly.

The coin is also not assigned to anyone's registry set and there are no known appearances of this coin in auctions.

Saved me the trouble. I think it's real. Personally, I wouldn't sell it. It's definitely worth well north of $8k, though.

You're right! Now that's interesting. Whoever owns it should contact PCGS Customer Support to see if it was a clerical error.

Harpo, where'd that image come from?

Am I missing something here? The coin images in the OP are cut and pasted into those of a PCGS holder; there is a thin black line between the coin and slab images and, on the reverse, the top of the coin doesn't exactly register with the slab (i.e., bad cropping). What's going on?

I just Googled "PCGS Secure 1909 plus" and came up with several pictures. Apparently this was a sample slab of some sort. The number doesn't come up in their data base but her's does.

I vote her's to be authentic.

I don't see any signs of photoshopping. The shadows are correct when you zoom in on the reverse...

Bad cropping, I tried to put in a circle crop, but, nid not take. And it left 2 rings around image. then, i reverted back to square cropping. I was tring to keep the slab, from being seen in the beginning. 213sarah

A PCGS MS66+RD 1909-S VDB is worth around $25,000 give or take a few thousand depending on how it looks in hand... even at the grade of MS66+RD, not all coins are equal in quality.

Your father gave this to you as a gift? Do you have a complete Lincoln collection? Or, is was this bought as an investment.

    Oh, and I'll give you $8002.99 :)
