Yer up snake. Happy Memorial Day, all.

PS: I realize it's a "solemn" day, but we can take happiness in our thanks and gratitude.

This half was actually being auctioned on TT when I posted it, the high bid was at $90 when the auction ended however it was not listed as "sold" the next day. This would make bahabully the closest.

I don't really "get" Kennedy half toning. I find this rev. to be only moderately attractive—a lot of grey toward the rim—and I'm not too crazy about the obv. either for a 5. Would've never guessed $90+.

I suppose it's not common, though.

I'm pretty much out... but can offer this one that I've posted in another thread. If you've seen the price already then just post what you think you'd have guessed had you not seen the price (if that's possible).

I imagine that there was little or no toning premium, I'll go $10.00 for the slab.

I will assume recent, so $17.

Simple but I like it. $15.

Anybody is free to post anything; in the meantime, here's a current Heritage auction item: PCGS MS65. Ends in 3 days (I'll post the price then). Numismedia wholesale is $840 and current bid w/ BP is $431. I thought it'd be an interesting and tough one to guess on.

oval, do you know what caused that strange toning pattern on the back? that's interesting looking ... was it taped in an album or something?

I'm thinking a piece of tape......

That would be my guess. I loooove the obv. color and excellent strike, BTW. Too bad the rev. has the Bermuda Rectangle of toning.

I don't really like it, but guess it will realize or exceed wholesale given it's out on the west coast and for some reason I tend to observe auctions going off for more out there than in other venues. I'll say 900

What don't you like about it? Too dull/somber?

I don't like the tape mark on the reverse, nor the apparent lack of luster in the white area within the tape mark. My guess is that the coin will appear dull and gray than colorful. The only thing I do like about it is that it has that antique look, but the tape area takes more away than the honest antique toning gives... so a net negative in my book.

Yeah, the tape is a deal-breaker for me but I do like the antique obv. The slab photo is not as flattering as this one, as you might imagine.
