So I purchased this wheat penny(nothing great) For $3.26. I am not very good on grading but didn't realize this grade looked so horrible. I tried to take some pictures of this coin but failed. Here is the link to my auction http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...UYlQCCY%3D&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK:MEWNX:IT . For the price I paid I am not sure if I did well or bad? Please feel free to share your thoughts. Thank you.

The coin is worth maybe 10¢, but someone paid something like $7+ to put it in a slab. I have no idea why. My guess is that you should be able to get your money back, but that would be about it and that is just a guess.

Well I don't plan on selling it and I didn't buy it as an investment. I just thought for that price in a PCGS slab why not. I really am not good at grading so when I got this coin I was shocked on how poor of a grade XF 40 is for a wheat penny. Why would anyone even pay for this to get graded?

Yeah, you're okay. Personally I wouldnt have gone over that. As long as you like it and it fits into your collection in some way then that's what matters most.

That is my thought also. So it cost him way more to have it graded as a variety, and all one gets is a standard label if it isn't.

Hey guys. I'm new to the forum and saw a wheat penny post so I had to read it. Xf40 isn't too bad on a wheaty as long as it goes into your collection as mentioned above. Personally I wouldn't have gotten it graded. For wheats like that I have a few of those real nice whittman's wheat penny books. The good ones with the plastic look through glass in a real nice book. I have two of those for all my wheats and you can pick them up at your local coin shop. But don't worry bro a 1936 of any mint is becoming more rare as each year passes. By the time you pass it to your kids or grandchildren it will be worth plenty I'm sure!

    For $3 what the heck?

This is one of those head scratchers. The 1936 Lincoln is widely available in BU grades. It's pretty sad they spent the money to slab it. Like the others said, they must have thought it was a DDO or it was part of a grading set......or they were plain dumb.

Yeah, for a slabbed coin (even if it is a pointless coin to slab), 3 and a half bucks is a good price.

I was thinking they were playing the poor mans version of the crack out game. But as long as it is worth something to you as a collector it's all good. Besides coins can be a legacy bro!

It may have been a free submission and done just for a lark.

I would not have paid $3 for an XF '36. As rlm says, it's worth about a dime.

Funny, after shipping and fees, what did the seller net?
