After 3 years of waiting (I had to sell my 1921 Peace Dollar to pay bills when I became unemployed 3 years ago) I have finally replaced it. Although it's a lower grade coin than my last one (an AU) I still love the design...and I got it basically for free (no, I didn't steal it!) Thoughts on grade?
I'll keep an eye out This is part of the group of coins I got at a local flea market. Spent six hours at one booth...so I'd better get some good stuff, right? At this point, it's a great opportunity for me to play with my camera (even though I don't have a tripod with me.)
I just bought one (ngc ms63) a couple of weeks ago. I really love the design of it, they should of never changed it. Nice pickup
Good for you! In my opinion, the 1921 Peace Dollar is one of the most beautiful coins in our history. It's one of the few keys I have in a high grade, just because it's so stunning. Yours has a lot of nice character and I hope you really enjoy it. Hang on to it as long as you can.
Thanks for posting the 1921. I don't have a photo of mine. I recall someone had a 1921 Peace dollar display at the FUN show a couple years back. They were exhibiting the 1921 dollar in every numerical grade from 1 to something like 67 or 68. They had one complete set in NGC slabs & one complete set in PCGS slabs. Did anyone else see this? Here is my new 1935. It is not in high relief like the 1921 but it is a nice coin.
Just thought of picking the exact same coin up at the Long Beach Show. I'm going to have to sell the 1921 I already have that's a raw choice AU, approximately, and maybe my lower end 1924-S at the shop. Believe it or not, they let me consign FOR FREE! I can just bring a coin in and they'll sell it for me at retail price! Not sure how they make a profit... But I think they dabble in a lot of junk silver coins. They buy them in bulk, wholesale lots. -Brian
Wow! Very clear, virtually untouched fields (disregarding the hairline at 3 o' clock). What'd you say you thought'd grade? -Brian
Awesome coins guys! The only one I have is a silly little 1925 in AU58 - MS60. I got it in the junk silver box at my dealer. He (one of his lowly workers) described it as a slider. No matter, I got it for silver price. Then the price dropped and I kicked myself for not waiting a week. Oh well, not like there is any way I could know the price would drop. I bought it for 38 back when silver was 45. My brother just gave me an empty peace dollar whitman folder he bought at goodwill. Now I have another task! Sorry, I ramble sometimes.
IMO is would get MS65 and have a shot at 66. I got lucky & bought it raw for MS64 money at the 2011 FUN show. It has four rays on the reverse at ONE. It is the only year with the four rays I think.
