I have a '43 nickel I got a change from a recent purchase. I noticed something odd about it. There is a crack along the left side on the tails side. I put it under a microscope to inspect it, and there is debris under some laminations. I can have a pic up tomorrow. How unique is this?

The crack goes from the edge near the "E" to the "S" in "States" There are no obvious bends in the coin, and no apparent clamping marks anywhere on the coin.

if you need any more info, and I will try to answer you when I post the pic tomorrow.

It sounds like it may be a die crack. Die cracks sometimes do increase the value of the coin. Many collectors out there like these types. Of course, a picture will be needed to truly see what it is.

Hmmm. I am not positive that is a die crack. At the top where it start, there seems to be a hit or something. It may be PMD. Hopefully someone else with more knowledge about die cracks can chime in.

you can zoom in pretty far with the pic. The thumbnail doesnt even come close.

Is is possible the coin itself is cracked from debris being in the metal when it went through the die?

That question is above my pay grade. Someone will most likely respond to it. :)

My opinion is a de-lamination crack.

captainkirk, what does that do for the value of the coin?

No, I think it is a lamination.
